Not sure who goes for a run this late at night, but it is working in my favor right now.

My phone pinged with a notification, indicating the gates were opening again. Theo’s showers usually lasted fifteen minutes, so despite the cold outside, I decided to forego grabbing a robe since it would only slow me down.

The house was quiet as I slipped out of the master bedroom and rounded the corner of the upstairs hallway. I strolled down the hall, and my breathing slowed, my heartbeat picking up as I tiptoed down the stairs in the dark, using the wall to guide me.

Rosa was staying over in our guest bedroom downstairs tonight since it would be an early morning tomorrow. I knew she was already sound asleep, but one could never be too careful.

Once in the kitchen, I stalked across it and pushed lightly against the sliding glass doors. Peeking my head outside, I did a quick scan of the backyard, confirming no one had stayed behind.

With no one in sight, I made my way outside, keeping low to the wall and dodging the scope of the cameras. I’d be able to alter the footage later, but it would be easier if minimal changes had to be done since I didn't have all of my equipment with me.

I’d been studying the pool house when an icy breeze sifted through my hair and sleeping gown, the waves in the pool rippling against it. I cursed under my breath, berating myself for not wearing something warmer.

I waited for the sound of the shower to filter through the slightly ajar window from the pool house before jogging across the yard.

My breathing grew louder, my heartbeat pounding in my ears as I looked through the curtained windows to see if he was still in the main living area. Then, I slowly turned the doorknob on the door and pushed it open just enough for my body to squeeze through.

Once inside, I gently closed the door behind me, a soft click echoing through the room. I turned my attention to the back of the house where the bathroom was, a soft yellow hue filtering beneath the door. I stayed silent. Watching. Listening.

No other sound came except for the shower spray. I took in the space around me. A dim pool of moonlight flowed across the hardwood floor, but it was still dark enough that it took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust.

Everything was still as it was. There was no personal touch. No pictures on the nightstand, no books lying around. You could barely tell someone was living here. You could barely tellTheowas staying here. Not that he’d ever been a messy person, but this looked almost clinical.

The large queen bed was made. A pile of clothes neatly folded sat in the corner. I walked over to the bed and kneeled down to look through the drawers at the base of it, opening each one.

Bedding. Towels. Clothing.

I rummaged through the layers, looking for any folders, computers, or burner phones. Nothing. I rose from the floor and drifted to the left side of the large room that served as his living space and into the small kitchen area. I opened each drawer and cabinet carefully, looking through each.

Again, nothing. I let out a frustrated sigh.

Think, Sofia. If you were Theo, where would you put anything of value?

And it clicked. In plain sight. First thing he’d taught me.

If you have anything to hide, do it in plain sight where the intruder wouldn’t even think of looking.

I scanned the room once again and noticed the small drawer on the entryway table next to the door. I walked over and tried to pull it open, but it wouldn’t budge. I muttered a curse under my breath, pulling harder until a small creak resonated.

That’s when I saw it. A laptop with a phone resting on top of it. The shower was still running, but it wouldn’t be enough time to go through both, so I went for the phone.

Right as I was picking it up, the clearing of a throat broke the silence in the room.

Fuck.

CHAPTER14

THEO

Iheard her mutter something under her breath, her hair tumbling around her delicate face, a scowl marring it. She carefully tried sliding the drawer open again, this time succeeding, triumph lighting her features.

She was completely oblivious to my presence, so I seized the opportunity to take her in. She was barefoot and wearing a silk nightgown that barely grazed her thighs, the fabric resting against the swell of her ass.

Jesus.Fuck.

I wanted to press my lips against that soft skin, to trail kisses up her thighs, feeling her body come alive under my tongue until I finally landed at my desired destination.

I wanted to part her legs and teach her a lesson about invading someone’s privacy. I wanted my mouth filled with her cum as I watched her come apart, driving her to the same obsession she’d conjured in me.
