“Oh my god…” I muttered, stepping out of the safe house into the early morning light. I leaned against the concrete, my legs shaky and unreliable. “What a night… I’m not gonna walk right for a month.”

“I feel pretty good,” Chance replied, patting me on the shoulder.

“You didn’t get fisted by the world’s biggest cock three times last night.”

Chance smiled, his cheeks flushing red. “You practically begged me to.”

“Well, I couldn’t just let you run off and start killing people!” I retorted. “I had to distract you somehow!”

“And, in true Kael fashion, you used your ass.”

“Laugh all you want,” I said, punching him in the shoulder. “But you’re carrying me back to the house.”

He scooped me up without a second thought, his strong arms pulling me close to his chest. “Of course, my darling,” he smiled, placing a small kiss on my forehead.

“And you owe me a new phone.”

“What? Why?”

“Um, your fat ass jumped on it, that’s why.”

He stared at me like he didn’t know what I was talking about.

“When you first hulked out on me? You know, when you tried to kill me?”

“Oh… that…”

“Yeah, that.” I wrapped my arms around his neck, laying my head on his shoulder. “We can get the phone later. I’m sure yours is fine. Your clothes pretty much shredded when you shifted, so it’s probably just lying in a pile of fabric somewhere.”

“I hope so,” Chance replied, heading back the way we’d come the night before. “I’m expecting a call today.”

“From who?”

“A new pack forming down south. They call themselves the Ombra pack.”

“You didn’t tell me about that. Also, talk about an edge lord name. Woof.”

He laughed. “I just found out a few days ago when they reached out looking for packs to ally with. They heard about us and thought we’d be the most understanding. Apparently, they’re very similar to us–”

“So they’re gay.”

“Yeah. But they’re a mixed pack.”

I paused, staring up at him. “You mean…”

“Yeah,” Chance nodded. “The Alpha took a human mate.” He placed another kiss on my forehead. “He said he didn’t have a choice. You can’t choose who your mate is, and I know all about that.”

I lifted an eyebrow in his direction. “I can’t tell if that’s a compliment or not…”

“Darling, I love you more than anything in the world,” he said, spinning me around in his arms. “I wouldn’t trade you for anything. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

“Damn right,” I replied, despite the tears forming in my eyes.

We stared at one another for a long moment, the love between us driving away the chill of the morning air.

“So,” I said, clearing my throat. “Are you going to ally with this new pack then?”

“Of course,” Chance nodded. “The world is too small to hold on to these archaic traditions. If our pack can accept us, then I can easily help another looking for guidance and friendship.”

“Your kind of a big dope,” I smiled, hugging Chance around his neck. “But you’re the sweetest man in all the world. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better.” I leaned back, placing a soft kiss on his lips. “I love you so much, Chance.”

“I love you too, baby.”
