Nodding, I smile and pull out my phone and type out a text.

ELLISON: I have a lot to take care of today, but I plan on being in your bed tonight

MONTANA: Are you sure?

MONTANA: I want to see you but I don’t want it to be more stress.

ELLISON: I’ll use my key if I have to but it’s nonnegotiable

MONTANA: Fuck that’s a relief

ELLISON: We need it

MONTANA: I need you

ELLISON: I’m yours.

MONTANA

It’s dark out when my bedroom door creaks open and closes with a barely audible snick. I spent all day waiting for this moment, working harder in the fields to pass the time before stumbling back here too exhausted to keep my eyes open.

I think I was scared she wouldn’t show, so I made sure I wouldn’t miss her if she didn’t. Heart pounding in my chest, I don’t move, and I don’t dare look at the clock because the only thing that matters is that she’shere.Shadows move across Ellison in a sultry kind of dance, and I want so badly to reach out and trace every single one.

She pauses at the side of the bed, shimmying out of her shorts and pulling her shirt over her head, the lace barely visible on her bra and panties as she pulls the covers back. I swallow hard as she slides in next to me, the mattress barely registering her weight.

“I’m not sorry I woke you,” she says quietly as she closes the distance between us, draping her leg over mine and leaning over me.

“You used your key.”

“I told you I would.”

My unspokenI didn’t believe youhangs between us, her dark eyes searching mine before she dips her head and presses a gentle kiss against the column of my throat. Her breath is hot on my skin as she does it again.

And again.

My Adam’s apple bobs as I release a shaky breath into the silence.

My hand moves from where it’s resting on the mattress, up over her hip to draw small circles on her back, dipping barely under the lacy waistband of her panties but eliciting a shiver from her all the same. Her skin is soft and smooth, and it’s like the blanket of darkness makes us a little bolder. There’s no game to be played right now and nothing but the intentional shift of her body closer to mine to tell me what she needs.

“Montana?” Her voice is like the softest caress, forcing my gaze to meet hers. “I don’t want anything between us. I want to feel all of you.” Her gaze drops to my lips, and even with the shadows cast across her face, I don’t miss the hunger as she waits for my response.

But I’m not ready for words just yet, my heart in my throat making it damn near impossible to speak.

I’ve never not used a condom—priding myself on always protecting the women I’d taken to bed before this, as well as myself.

But that was before.

And there’ll be no one after this.

Trailing my palm up her spine, I relish the goose bumps that cover her skin. The way she reacts to a simple touch has my blood running hot in my veins.

“I’ve never done it without one.”

Her smile is wicked as it slowly spreads across her face, her hips rocking against my leg that’s sandwiched between her thighs. I can feel her heat, the friction of the lace, and how absolutely soaked she is for me.

“But you’ll do it for me…” She draws out the last word, making it not a question but a challenge.
