“You want to fight with me, Ness? Tell me now, cuz I’m already gonna punish this sassy fucking mouth later.”
Nessa comes on a silent cry, arching into me as she shakes and bucks her hips, riding my hand and chasing every wave of pleasure before burying her face in my chest and damn near collapsing against me.
Wrapping my hand around her ponytail, I tug her head back as I pull my other hand from between her legs. “I was serious, Nessa. I want these lips wrapped around my cock tonight.”Lowering my head, I press my mouth against hers, pulling back only to add, “And I want to watch you get yourself off as I’m spilling down your throat.”
Releasing her, I step back, her expression both dazed and turned on.
“I didn’t know you had it in you, Sheriff,” she says as nonchalantly as her still-racing heart will allow.
Letting my gaze rake over her, I make sure I have her full attention before meeting her eyes. “Why don’t you take a minute then come out and say bye to Mama?” My lips twitch as I add, “She was just worried sick about you, Ness. Good thing we took care of that, isn’t it?”
With a wink, I turn and leave Nessa staring after me, my body humming with anticipation for later.
Much later.
For now, I’m just happy to relax with my girls and soak in the feelin’ of being home.

NESSA
Itap my foot against the hardwood as I wait for Kinsley to answer. Remi coos happily on the mat on the floor, an owl, mirror, and crunchy-sounding lion all hovering above her. From here, it sounds like she’s telling them stories, and my heart grows impossibly larger in my chest.
I didn’t ask for this.
“Hey, sorry. I was…indisposed,” my best friend says as she comes on the line, completely out of breath, a door closing in the background.
“You could have justnotanswered if you were having sex.”
“Orgasms were exchanged; it was time for him to go.”
I snort because I could just imagine the poor guy’s face as Kinsley unceremoniously showed him the door.
“Repeat?”
Her pause has me pushing the phone harder against my ear. “Umm…”
“What?!” I whisper-hiss because I don’t want to disturb Remi with my freakout. Since her long-term boyfriend had broken up with her right before Kins joined the league, she hadn’t been with anyone more than a night. She played it off like having adifferent guy warming her bed was the dream, but I could see the pain that had never gone away.
I could see it, because I felt it too.
Our reasons were different but we stuck together—man-eaters, as the media liked to call us. We played it up, and while we’d certainly had our fun, it wasn’t nearly what had been portrayed over the years.
We just didn’t bother to correct them.
“It’s only been a couple of times.”
“Excuse me while I sit down,” I joke, and I can practically hear her eye roll through the phone.
“Like you have any room to talk,” she snarks back, and I sigh, actually dropping onto the stool at the island.
“That’s why I’m calling.”
“Why? What happened?”
“I like him, Kins. I love Remi and Ilikehim. And she’s almost rolling over and then she’ll be crawling and walking, and will I really be able to miss all that? How did I let this happen? I don’t like people and I definitely don’t think about how it would be if this was my life.”
“I thinkIneed to sit down now.”
