His grin transforms his face. “I’m gonna be a dad.”

Then his expression drops. Panic floods his features as he pushes back from the chair, pacing. Running a hand through his hair. “Oh shit. I’m going to be a dad. I don’t know how todothat. It’s not like I had good role models growing up. What if I’m like them? What if I—”

“Kai,” I cut in, grabbing his arm. “It’s going to be fine.”

His frantic gaze snaps to mine. “Is it?”

“Well... I don’t know. Butyou’refreakingmeout. That’smyjob.”

The rest of the appointment is a blur of pamphlets and information overload. By the time we step outside, my brain feels like it might actually explode.

“I need food,” I groan.

Kai’s hand rests on the small of my back, sending warmth through me. “Any cravings?”

“I want a frappuccino.”

“That’s not food,” he laughs, but he’s already steering me toward the nearest Starbucks.

“Did Iaskfor your opinion?” I grumble.

Kai just shakes his head, opening the café door.

After a long wait, I walk out clutching a chocolate frappuccino (sans coffee)anda panini. Kai drives us home, and I hum happily in the passenger seat.

He glances at me, lips twitching. “You seem happier.”

I exhale. “I am.” I pause. “I’m scared, obviously.Terrifiedto find out the paternity. But… I’m also kind of excited.”

The doctor scheduled us a second appointment, one where they can do some blood tests to find out the father.

The odds are in Kai’s favour. I know this. But it doesn’t fully settle the anxiety.

He nods, slowing as he pulls into the driveway.

Opening my door, he helps me out before dragging me into a kiss, his tongue dancing with mine before he pulls away, heat evident in his eyes.

We settle on the couch after finishing our food. I curl my legs up, resting my head against his shoulder.

“Do you think we’re gonna be okay?” I ask softly.

Kai exhales. “I don’t know what the future holds, Hurricane. But I know I wantyouin it.”

A tear slips down my cheek. “Who knew murdering my boyfriend would lead tothis?”

Kai brushes the tear away, then kisses me—deep and lingering.

“I’m glad you’re a murderer,” he murmurs.

I grin against his lips. “That’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

“Oh, you want romance?” Kai asks, his eyes darkening as he pulls me into his lap.

My breath catches as I feel him hardening beneath me. My hips rock against him and he groans as he pulls my head down, teasing my lips open with his tongue.

In a swift movement he flips us so I’m lying on the sofa, his weight pressing against me. Kai slips his fingers under the waistband of my jeans, popping open the button and pulling them and my underwear off my legs.

He kisses his way up to me, taking his time like he’s savouring the moment. He lingers on my belly, kissing it gently and rubbing his thumb over my navel. His eyes meet mine and he grins. “You’re gonna be a MILF.”
