Champions.

We're champions.

Of a small-town line dancing competition.

Why does this feel so significant?

We accept awards with gratitude that's probably excessive for recreational competition but feels appropriate given community investment and personal meaning.

The announcer positions himself beside us, microphone raised:

"Now, as per tradition, our champions get to request one improvement or addition to Sweetwater Falls. Past winners have requested everything from new playground equipment to expanded library hours. What would you three like to see?"

Request.

We get to request something.

Town improvement as a prize for winning a dance competition.

Small-town traditions are delightfully wholesome.

Calder and Aidric turn toward me—unified decision to defer to my preference, a pack dynamic playing out in a public context.

My choice.

They're giving me a choice.

Not making decision for me or overriding my preference.

The answer arrives without conscious deliberation—an obvious solution to the problem I've been contemplating since arriving in Sweetwater Falls.

"I want another firehouse for Station Fahrenheit," I declare with confidence that carries through the microphone. "Expansion facility that allows us to serve a greater territory, hire additional crew members, and provide better emergency coverage for the growing community."

Practical.

Professional.

Using the platform for community benefit rather than personal gain.

The crowd's reaction is immediate approval—cheering that suggests my request aligns with recognized community need, that I've articulated a desire others have been harboring.

Good choice.

Apparently good choice based on reception.

Chief Tom rises from the audience—his substantial frame unmistakable even in a crowded venue, movement drawing attention as someone offers him a microphone.

What's happening?

Why does Tom need a microphone?

What is he?—

"Wish granted," Tom's voice booms with authority that silences remaining chatter. "Already in the works, actually, because Station Fahrenheit 2.0 is going to need their own Fire Chief now that Aidric Hawthorne is the official Chief of Station Fahrenheit."

What.

WHAT.
