A stowaway. His blood heated with fury. He wondered if perhaps one of his brothers’ recent bedmates had stolen away aboard theRithona. Though he knew none of his brothers had spilled their seed inside a woman—that would be saved for their shared mate—a human female might still have grown attached and invited herself along.

He cursed himself for not following protocol and scanning the cargo hold for lifeforms before leaving the runway on Rissa Island. But he’d been in such a hurry to leave Earth, he had forgone the usual takeoff procedure.

Where was she?

He walked away from the weapons and followed the intoxicating scent of her, wishing she didn’t smell so wonderfully tempting. He hadn’t even seen her yet, and his loins were already aflame, desire thrumming through him in waves of pulsing heat. Odd, because he had never felt an attraction to any of the human females he had seen in passing before.

Why did the scent of this particular female stir him so?

He growled and turned down the final row of supplies, her scent growing stronger, filling his senses like some sort of exotic drug. He couldn’t get enough of her. Couldn’t stop inhaling deep breaths just to savor the invigorating scent of her. His cock went hard and his pulse raced with excitement. Would he be able to control himself when he finally found her?

The urge to corner her, strip off her clothes, and sink his aching cock deep into her femininity ripped through him like a tidal wave. Perhaps he ought to return to the bridge and alert his brothers to her presence, lest he behave like an animal when he finally caught her.

But no. He couldn’t stop searching until he found her. The need to have her in his possession was unstoppable and fierce.

“I know you’re here, little human, and Iwillfind you.”

A faint gasp caught his attention, and he rushed forward to find her hiding in a small space between two large crates. Her frightened blue gaze met his.

He pulled her from the hiding spot.

“Caught you.”

Chapter Four

Makenna

Her heart pounded.

No no no, this couldn’t be happening.

Fear clutched her as she stared into the dark furious gaze of the alien male.

Only a few hours after sneaking aboard this vessel and she’d been caught. By a huge Khanndoran, no less. Not only did he appear angry, but his jaw was clenched tight and he was perspiring, sweat running down his temples, as if he were fevered or in some kind of great pain. How he could be overheated in these freezing temperatures, she had no idea.

In the dimness of the cargo hold, she recognized his race mainly from his language, which was one of the first alien tongues she had ever studied. Thank goodness for that, because she hadn’t been wearing a translator when she snuck aboard this vessel.

He stared down at her, still holding onto her arm. His grip was firm but not punishing, but it hurt her neck to stare up at him. He had to be at least seven feet tall. He was built like a warrior, and suddenly it all made sense.

Khanndoran warriors occasionally visited Rissa Island for military training exercises. There was a small military base on the northern coast of the island. Her fear deepened as she took in his black uniform and the blaster attached to his hip. Yes, he was definitely a Khanndoran warrior. His nostrils flared and he leaned closer, his entire body tensed as if for battle. Clearly, he wasn’t happy to find her. But had she known this ship contained Khanndoran warriors, she would have never boarded it. She’d watched some crates of wine being loaded and assumed it was a trading vessel bound for Phennulos, as it had been on the runway close to thePortania, the ship on which her friends had planned to travel. She’d never seen a Khanndoran visiting the party planet before, but perhaps this alien warrior and his crew would be the first. She wondered how many like him were on board, and were they as tall and muscular as him?

“I-I think I must have boarded the wrong ship,” she offered lamely, speaking in his tongue. “If-if you open the hatch, I will be on my way.”

He raised one dark eyebrow at her, appearing slightly amused. “Wrong ship, indeed, little human,” he said to her in English. “I am fluent in your tongue and you may speak to me in your native language, if you wish.”

Raw power radiated from his huge form, causing a shiver to run down Makenna’s back. He could probably crush her with his bare hands in a split second if he wished. She felt small and vulnerable in his grasp and hoped he opened the hatch soon so she could run away. But that would still leave her with the problem of finding another ship, and her resolve to travel to Phennulos remained strong. She studied the huge alien, wondering if perhaps he might accept a bribe. Though he looked intimidating, his people were in good standing with Earth and considered valuable allies, she reminded herself.

“I have jewels,” she announced in English. “I could compensate you handsomely in exchange for safe passage to Phennulos. I promise I won’t be any trouble. I’ll stay right here in the cargo hold during the entire trip.” It wouldn’t be comfortable, and her teeth were already starting to chatter from the cold—she certainly hadn’t expected a cargo hold to be so frigid—but she would endure if only it meant she wouldn’t be trapped on Rissa Island for the entire summer. Anything to escape the sheer loneliness and the cutting remarks of her father.

The alien male guided her away from the crates and further into the light. He held her gaze and took a deep breath as he leaned toward her, as if he were smelling her. Her heart raced. Humans and Khanndorans were sexually compatible, though human women were warned to avoid them because their males had a reputation for being quite possessive and domineering. She was also pretty sure they were one of the few alien species that mated for life. Her pulse thudded in her ears. She really hoped he stopped sniffing her soon.

“Little human,” he said in a deep, gravelly tone, “my warship isn’t headed for Phennulos. We are bound for Khanndora.”

“Oh, well, then I insist you release me and open the hatch. I must be on my way.” Unease spread through her when he held fast to her upper arm and made no move to open the hatch. Her pulse spiked with fear.

“We’ve already left Earth.”

Her stomach nearly bottomed out. “Please turn around. You-you must turn around! Please take me back.” She struggled to escape his grasp, but he tightened his hold, apparently determined to keep her captive.
