“I made you some.” She gestures at the other cup, and I notice my notepad and pencil lying beside it. “Come sit.”

She waits until I take a seat before she asks, “How are you holding up?”

I shrug out of habit. Putting down my phone, I pick up the pencil and write.

I’m just very confused.

She gives me an encouraging look. “You can ask me anything.”

How do you know Enzo?

“We work together,” she gives me the same answer as when we met, but then she adds, “We’re in an alliance of five people. You saw the other three men last night.”

Not knowing what that means, I ask more questions.

What alliance? Are you a criminal too?

Cassia reads what I’ve written before she meets my eyes. “How much has Enzo told you?”

He’s an assassin and something about a criminal organization in Portugal. He also said he won’t let me go and that I belong to him!!!! I think he’s insane.

Instead of taking me seriously, Cassia bursts out laughing, and I scowl at her.

“Oh no, I’m not laughing at you.” She shakes her head. “You just summed up Enzo in a nutshell.”

So he’s insane????

“Well, I wouldn’t say that, but he’s definitely a little unstable. But then again, so are all the men in my world.” She gets up and comes to sit beside me, then places her hand on my arm. “Seeing as Enzo’s told you what he does for a living, I’ll be honest with you. I’m the head of the Greek mafia. I’ve killed before, and I will again. That’s just how it works in our world.”

My eyes grow wider with every word she says.

Holy crap on a cracker, I seriously am the worst when it comes to people. I thought she was just one of those rich women who loves dressing up.

“Don’t panic,” she says as she moves her hand up to my shoulder. “I’m not a threat to you at all and consider you a friend.”

I quickly scribble over the paper.

But you’re all criminals!!

She nods. “Yes, we are.”

I shake my head at her as I write some more.

What am I supposed to do? You told me I’d be safe here, and I believed you. How could you bring me here and make me think I got the job of a lifetime?

Cassia takes a deep breath before letting it out slowly. “Everything I told you was the truth. I only omitted who Enzo is.”

Throwing my arms in the air, I get up, grab my phone, and walk away from her before I lose my temper.

Chapter 18

JENNA

Needing to get fresh air, I exit via the glass doors at the back of the house and walk toward the dock. Stopping right at the edge, I glance over the lake while wrapping my arms around myself.

All of this is madness!

“Jenna,” Cassia says, and when I glance over my shoulder, I see her coming closer. “Walking away won’t solve any problems.”
