Callum looked over at Islay, “We canna have the wedding in here.”

Islay nodded, “I ken. The library is stunning. We shall do it there.”

Callum nodded again, “As ye wish my lady.”

Islay looked over the people in the hall, “We will wait for Egan. He needs ta be there. He saved me as much as ye have.”

Callum inclined his head, and Culloden pulled Daracha from the hall.

“Stay with your sister. I will clean up here and then ye are mine.”

She smiled, “Good. Doona make me wait.”

She walked off with Daracha, Culloden following along behind them, and Callum faced toward the people still in the hall.

“Ye are all invited ta witness our wedding if ye choose, but I will hear no more of tryin’ ta get rid of me being Laird. I shouldna have ta even say this. Yet, I have. More than once. Ye seem ta hate me, though I have done nothin’ ta warrant tha’. Ye have a good life here. If ye haven’a seen how other clans live, then I suggest ye go see for yourselves. I have worked hard ta give ye a good, happy life here free from starvation and death.”

One woman stepped forward, “Laird, we beg yer forgiveness. We were blind ta the ways of the world. Blinded by the rumors tha’ have swirled around ye for tae long. We let them be our guide instead of gettin’ ta ken the Laird tha’ has given us so much. My sister lived in one of the keeps tha’ McGavin took, and he killed her husband and children so he could control her. I wish she hadna listened ta the rumors and believed me when I said ye were a good Laird.”

Callum’s eyebrow rose, and he looked down at the fresh blood that still sat at his feet.

“Ye are jus’ tellin’ me this so ye doona lose your head,” he joked softly.

She coughed as if trying not to laugh, “Nay Laird. I mean wha’ I say.”

Callum studied her, and he slowly smiled, “I thank ye.”

She smiled back at him, “I hope ye ken how thrilled I am for ye and the lady. She is beautiful and so kind. I see the love ye have for each other, and I still look at my husband tha’ way.”

A man stepped up beside her, and wrapped his arm around her stomach, “Aye Laird. Congratulations on yer wedding. Thank ye for the good life we have.”

Callum inclined his head, “I’m a lucky man.”

A few other people stepped forward, shaking his hand, and congratulating him and he was shocked.

“Thank ye all.”

Egan came back a few minutes later, holding a bucket of sand and pouring it over the blood on the floor.

“Damnation. This stone will soak the blood up.”

Callum laughed, “A little blood willna hurt anyone. If anything, it will serve as a reminder who helped ta free the Highlands from a man like tha’.”

Egan lifted a brow, “Aye. I suppose ye are right.”

Callum clapped him on the back, “Doona take tae long. My bonnie lass wishes ta wed with ye in attendance, and I wish for tha’ tae.”

Egan inclined his head, and Callum went to find Islay.

CHAPTER10

ISLAY

After getting back from the woods, and finding the man who tried to hurt Daracha, Islay was good and done.

She still couldn’t believe she had hit that man in the head with a full goblet of ale.

He was trying to hurt Callum and she wouldn’t stand for it.
