He finally found the one he was looking for, seeing the now familiar scroll of the script from the letters that Angus had received.
Callum read over the letter, which read.
Laird Stewart,
My congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. I hear that the Brodie lasses are beautiful beyond compare. Either of them would be a fine bride for any of the Lairds out there. I hope you find joy in your wedded bliss. Wives are such a blessing. Even ones that are filled with ideas. I shall send a wedding gift along with my emissary on the day of your wedding. You will rather enjoy it.
Desmond McGavin
Callum stood, “Fook.”
He rushed back down to his men, showing him the letter that McGavin had sent him.
Once Egan read it over, he swore, “What does tha’ mean? Tha’ both are beautiful beyond compare?”
Callum shook his head, “I doona ken. I doona like it though.”
Egan nodded, “Aye. I doona like it either. It seems as if he is tryin’ ta goad ye.”
Callum nodded, “Aye. It is worded rather strangely. I doona understand it. And why would he send me a weddin’ present? I would only invite my allies. No’ some Laird who is power hungry. It’s like taking a venomous snake ta yer breast.”
Egan looked grim, “If he is the one Angus has been writin’, it worries me.”
Callum let out a breath, “I fookin’ ken. Wha’ the hell has Angus said? All of these letters make no sense.”
Egan read through them again, “I ken. It’s as if they are written in code.”
Callum went still, “Fookin’ hell. Tha’ son of a bitch. He wrote it in code. We have ta figure ou’ how ta solve it.”
Egan nodded, “We need ta see if the way ta break the code is in Angus’ rooms.”
Callum wanted to snarl, “Do it then. I care no’ if the women are uncomfortable. Put them in the dungeon for all I care.”
Egan’s eyes went wide, then he slowly smiled, “Done.”
Callum pinched the bridge of his nose and felt someone come up beside him.
He looked over at Islay, who gave him a soft smile, “Ye are tae stressed.”
“I canna tell ye how much I hate this.”
Her face filled with compassion, “I ken. I hate it tae. It’s hard seeing ye like this.”
He put his forehead to hers, “I wanted ta spend the day with ye in bed.”
Islay’s cheeks went pink, making him smile, “I did tae.”
His cock jerked in his pants and Callum leaned in, “Ye are a vixen.”
She kissed him quickly, “Only because of ye.”
She sobered, “Wha’ are ye goin’ ta do about the letters?”
“Pray we find the code.”
She nodded, and Egan came back down the stairs, dragging a screaming Talitha with him.
His face was red, a handprint visible on his cheek.
