After a second round of too many books, she passed them to the guard to unload before meeting Kay and Carlie at a table where another author was passing out little bottles of fireball.
That was something Daisy hadn’t been prepared for. Several of the authors were like swag pushers, they just wanted to give things away and make sure you had a good time. It was welcoming, and she was already thinking about looking up more events.
Maybe someday she could even be on the other side of the table. Writing under a pen name and living a life that was just for her. That could also be the alcohol talking, after several shots with authors and readers she was carrying a nice little buzz as she made it to the last few tables.
The last author on her list was Sapphire Knight, who was also the host of the event. She thanked the gorgeous woman, purchased several books, then complimented her heels before walking out of the room at the end of the event.

She frozeas she closed the door to her room. Daisy had told the guard she was going to take a nap or rest for a while before hanging out with a few of the readers that evening. She had been unprepared for the amount of energy an event could take out of someone. It was amazing and fun but she was feeling a little more drained than usual.
Even that wasn’t more of a shock than the smell of Jay in her room. A feeling that he’d been in her room. That lingering smell of his. She shook her head, it shouldn’t have surprised her.
Daisy stepped out of her heels and changed into an oversize shirt before climbing in the bed and let her eyes shut. It was somewhere between asleep and awake when she thought she might be dreaming.
Jay’s hands were moving up her legs, the covers thrown off of her. His nose trailed up her thigh before placing her legs above his shoulders. The first dip of his tongue and her eyes flew open.
It wasn’t a dream.
His arms tightened around her legs to hold her close as his tongue flicked across her clit. Her hand moved to his head as he licked and moved his mouth against her. She wasn’t sure if she was holding him there or pushing him away when her phone rang on the table next to her.
Jay pulled back and looked up at her. “Answer it.”
She shook her head when she looked over to see Tom’s name come across the screen.
“Answer it.” He hesitated. His breath was so close but his eyes stayed on her.
“Hello?” She put the phone up to her ear.
“Where are you?” Tom’s voice sounded distant.
“I.” She froze as Jay moved his tongue over her. She held her breath to keep from moaning. “I’m resting after the event.”
“Why do you sound out of breath?” Tom questioned.
“I just got done moving books around.” She covered her mouth to keep from groaning into the speaker.
Her head was already growing light as the pleasure came.
“Daisy?” Tom’s voice called.
“I’m going to take a nap, I’ll call you later.” She ended the call and practically tossed the phone off the bed.
Jay’s tongue was flicking and sucking her clit as his finger moved in and out, then scissored inside of her and brought her to climax.
As her breathing returned to normal, she looked down at the man with the smug look on his face. “Why did you make me take the call?”
“He’s going to learn soon enough.” Jay crawled up her body and placed a kiss to her forehead before climbing off the bed. “I’ll see you tomorrow. That’s when you tell him.”
“Jay, it’s not that easy.” Why couldn’t he understand?
“My darling girl.” He smiled at her. “I have a plan. Don’t you trust me?”
Daisy nodded. She trusted him more than anyone in this depressing world.
She pulled the comforter back up over her body as she watched him leave. What was she going to do? Daisy wanted to be with him, but could she really go through with it? It wasn’t about being happy. She knew she would be happier if she could be with Jay. This was about the threatThe Familystill held over her. It wasn’t just Tom she needed to worry about; he wasn’t a threat compared to the ones who pulled the strings.
