Tyler knew in his gut, there was something special about her. He had to know her. He wouldn’t let her know that though. That was his plan, play it off as if he didn’t notice her. As if it were no big deal that she was the first of her kind. It was hard at times, with his wolf being curious about her.

The first time he caught her watching him, he pretended he hadn’t. He acted as if he were clueless. That was after he’d already been watching her too. She just didn’t know that he liked to watch her more than she watched him.

“Dude,” Max waved a hand in front of his face, then immediately took a step back and held his hands up. “What’s up?”

Tyler leaned his back against the wall, rubbed his thumb across his bottom lip, before looking back up at his pack mate and chuckling. “Just looking to see who I want warming my bed tonight.” He took a casual glance around the courtyard where everyone had been gathered.

He had zero interest in casual hookups. It was just part of his persona. Even when younger, he didn’t care to have meaningless relationships with others when he knew his fated mate was out there somewhere. That was all he wanted—the real thing.

Max shook his head. He’d quickly become his best friend while at Ethereal, but now they were at Sunstone. It was the start of a new chapter. Though they were young, they weren’t kids anymore. Each of the dozen selected to attend the first year of this new university had big futures ahead of them. Some had generational responsibilities, while others were choosing to pave their own way.

Each just as important as the next.

Professor James Neill cleared his throat as he walked to the front of the group. The old man taught magic theory classes at Ethereal, but was now the Dean of Sunstone. The Council offered him the chance to move over to this new school. It was the perfect opportunity to have someone already connected to half of the class ease the students into this new phase of their schooling.

“I see some familiar faces,” Professor Neill began. “The formal orientation will be before classes begin the day after tomorrow. I wanted to take a moment while everyone is getting settled and familiar with the property, to remind you of something important.” He paused. “Take advantage.” He smiled as he crossed his arms. “Take advantage of this weekend, get to know your classmates before the course work starts to weigh you down. Take advantage of this first year, the small class you have. This is a time to reinvent yourself.” He shook his head. “Though a few of you already know one another, there are new faces. And even though you know some faces, you may not know the person behind them.” His face grew serious. “Stay out of my office unless you make an appointment.” His eyes held a sign of mischief.

The ones that attended Ethereal knew what the warning really meant, stay out of his liquor cabinet disguised as a bookcase. James Neill had connections, which meant he had something illegal on hand, enchanted mead.

It wasn’t your normal honey mead, it was laced with magic and something forbidden. There were rumors that angel or demon blood was used to make the enchanted mead before it aged to perfection. Unlike other alcohol, this one affected the abilities of the supernatural. Often amplifying their gifts or making their magic act out in ways it normally couldn’t.

They managed to sneak a few bottles from his collection during their last year at Ethereal. It was the highlight of one of the parties at the falls. The waterfalls was the normal hangout, it also happened to be closer to Sunstone than Ethereal.

Tyler didn’t doubt the ones around him would help take over the falls for Sunstone. The older kids of Ethereal would have to stick with the areas already nearby if they wanted to sneak alcohol and have parties.

He watched out of his peripheral vision as Ella appeared bored while everyone else left the area.

“You coming?” Max started walking backwards.

“I forgot my phone in the gym, I’ll catch up in a little bit,” he lied, walking in the opposite direction.

We should get close again, his wolf growled out in his head.

The animal rarely talked, but had been fascinated with Ella and how close they were to her an hour before. It was the closest they’d ever been.

Tyler could still feel the spark in his palm from when he grabbed her arm. That residue of magic had spread to a tingling up his arm. He couldn’t help but breathe her in. He wanted to do it again. It was why as soon as he heard her footsteps he pivoted to a dark cutout from the wall.

He needed to feel her again. Smell her.Fuck, he wanted a taste.

As soon as she started to walk past, he reached out and pulled her flush against him. She gasped and he quickly covered her mouth with his hand as he backed her into the wall.

“Princess,” his voice teased.

He waited until she relaxed slightly before removing his hand, letting it slowly drop to her neck. He felt her swallow under his hand, he squeezed slightly and leaned in. Just another sniff to satisfy his wolf.

“Let go,” she spoke between her teeth.

He chuckled as he released his grip on her throat. His hand traveled down slowly, teasing the dark moon necklace she wore. Her breath hitched but she kept her eyes narrowed and looked past him, as if he had no effect on her. He traced her clavicle, then dropped his hand slowly. He grazed the side of her breast, and still she kept her eyes forward. He continued his way down her side, her hip, all the way to the edge of her skirt at her thighs.

Her eyes fluttered closed as he ran his finger under her skirt then scratched back down. Slowly teasing his way up and down the outside of her thigh, under her skirt. He couldn’t help the smirk that grew on his face as she leaned into him.

“Do you want me to stop?” he whispered near her ear before grazing his teeth along the lobe of her ear. He didn’t want to, but he needed to.

She shook her head and he smiled. He had her right where he wanted her. He stepped back and looked her up and down. Her eyes opened, desire clearly swirling in them. Then he walked away.

It was hard to leave her there, and not just because of the boner he was now sporting. No. He needed her to want him as much as he wanted her.
