His chest tightened as heat rose up his body. “Same.”

“Mmhmm.” Robert hooked their arm with Leslie’s. “Let’s go say hi to anyone else.”

Tyler watched them walk away then turned his attention back to Ella.

“What do you want?” She crossed her arms, her big gray eyes narrowing on him.

He stepped closer. “I want to see what this is all about.”

His wolf nodded in agreement. There was something special happening between the two of them.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She looked up at him and licked her lips.

He laughed. “Is that what you have to tell yourself?” He raised his hand slowly to her shoulder, then let his finger ease down, caressing her arm.

There was no denying the tingling sensation of magic he felt as he touched her. This wasn’t normal. It was like they were supercharged. Tyler knew enchanted mead had strange effects on the supernatural, but this was more than that.

Her gaze moved to his hand. She shook her head and looked back up at him, brows furrowed. “I don’t—”

Mate,his wolf howled.

No.He shook his head in disbelief.

Ours.The wolf jumped around.

Tyler’s eyes moved to Ella’s. Her eyes grew as he closed the distance between them. His hand reached across her jaw, up her neck, grabbing hold of part of her hair at the back of her head as he pulled her against him.

Her gasp stopped as he pressed his lips against hers. His grip on her tightened as her hands came to rest on his chest. He was afraid she was going to try and push him away, but then she fisted his shirt.

Someone in the distance could be heard yelling at them to get a room.

There was laughter.

He ignored everyone else but Ella. He was afraid to move. He knew if he let her go, she would put that wall back up. He was scared that this time, it would truly be impenetrable.

It had been less than twenty-four hours with everyone arriving and already he could tell a difference, this Ella wanted to connect. Whether that was future connections or genuine friendships, he didn’t know. All that he cared about was that she continued to open up to him.

He cautiously pulled back; her grip stayed tight on his shirt. She opened her eyes and he could see them glowing, her wolf was near too. Tyler couldn’t help but wonder if her wolf spoke to her the same way his did. Had hers told her what his had? They were fated.

Everything about the last few years made more sense now. The desire to move across the country and go to a school because of a stranger. The times he caught her watching him. All the times he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her and she still didn’t know.

“Ella, we’re—”

She covered his mouth with her hand. “I don’t know what you think, but you’re wrong.”

Not wrong. His wolf shook its head.Mate!

“I’m no good for you, Tyler.” Her face softened. “Good night.” She turned and walked away from him. She glanced over her shoulder and closed her eyes.

This wasn’t over.

This was far from fucking over.

CHAPTER FIVE

ELLA

Fuck. Fuck. FUCK!She mentally yelled at herself. She knew what he was getting ready to say. She felt her magic reach for him in a way it never had before, for anyone. It felt wrong. Her chest tightened and her head hurt. Times like this made her wish she could speak to her wolf, but the animal remained silent. She was only present when shifted, and even then, the voice was distorted.
