“My uncle is a member of The Guard, he got to travel with them a couple of times. He couldn’t share much, but he did describe a little of some of the worlds. It’s something I want to see for myself.” Ella nodded.

“You think there are more like you in other worlds?” Leslie spoked up.

“Anything is possible.” Ella glanced at her friend then back at Tyler.

She was right, anything was possible. He hoped that expression stayed with her. She had to feel this pull between them. It was unavoidable.

They left him alone shortly after. They’d already eaten. In fact, he was the last one to arrive, the last to leave the dining hall. As he made his way back to his room, he couldn’t get her out of his mind. As he turned to open his door, he felt eyes on him.

Thank fuck.

If she was watching him, she still cared.

As much as he wanted to look over at her, he knew it was too soon. He needed to catch her the next time. So he pushed open the door and entered his room, closing it softly behind him.

A few minutes after he got settled onto the small couch to read, a knock came at his door. He walked over and opened the door, surprised at the sight before him.

“Ella?” He couldn’t hide his shock.

“What are you doing?” She stepped forward into his room.

He closed the door. “Hi?”

“What was that this morning? Trying to be friends?” She turned to face him and glanced down at the book. “I don’t understand you.”

“You said last night was a mistake, so I thought we could at least be friends.” He swallowed and set the book down on the table nearby.

She sighed and started to pace. “What? No. We can’t.”

“Why not? We’re going to be classmates for the next few years and then probably be working together.” He crossed his arms.

Tell her this time. His wolf interrupted his thoughts.

Not now!He yelled at the animal.

“We can’t.” She shook her head and looked back at him. “There can be nothing here.” She waved at the air between them.

“You want to act like strangers?” Was she fucking serious?

“Yeah!” She nodded then swallowed. “Pretend you didn’t catch me watching you. Pretend the last twenty-fours haven’t happened. We’re just classmates, who don’t… anything!” She groaned.

He laughed.

“What’s so funny?” She crossed her arms, and he didn’t miss the way it pushed her breasts together and up slightly.

He took a few steps towards her. “Ella.”

“No.” She held her hands up. “This is nothing. You made a mistake. I’m sorry if you think fate is trying to tell you something, it’s a lie.” Her eyes softened. “It’s not real. When you meet your real mate, you’ll understand that this was wrong.”

“There’s nothing about you that feels wrong.” He stepped towards her.

“It’s a lie. I’m sorry.” She turned to move past him.

Screw his plan of trying to just be friends. It was a stupid fucking plan. He grabbed her and pulled her flush against him, capturing her lips with his own.

This was meant to be.

This was fate.
