“Are you feeling sick?”
Both of them questioned me, and all I could do is shake my head. “You’re both going to think I’m crazy, but I can’t sleephere. I don’t know if my mind is playing tricks on me, or if it’s truly haunted.”
“Stay with me.” Frederick softly gripped my chin and turned my head toward him. “I’ve got an extra room.”
“Are you sure?” I sank back in relief.
“Give me your key, and I’ll grab your things.” Kai leaned forward.
My eyes moved from Frederick to Kai before reaching into my pocket and pulling out the key card to hand to him. There was no way I could describe to either of them how grateful I was at not having to go back in that place.
“I didn’t even unpack. My bags should be sitting on the bed,” I said to Kai before he stepped out.
It took a little longer than I expected for him to return with my bags, but nobody said anything. We pulled away from the Lovibond Inn, and I watched it grow smaller in the sideview mirror.
My eyes grew heavy as my body finally relaxed, and I leaned against the door. I didn’t know where Frederick lived or how long it would take to get there, but I wasn’t worried. I would just sleep off a little of the alcohol on the drive.
I awoke to a scream and jerked against the seatbelt. Nobody was in the car with me, and panic filled me at the thought of something happening to either one of the brothers. I sobered up at the idea of something being wrong and quickly unbuckled and got out of the car.
The trees only added to the darkness, blocking any light from the moon as I ran closer to where I thought they might’ve been. Only, I hadn’t been prepared for reality. I froze in place at the image before me.
Chapter Twenty-Six
FREDERICK
It was a part of me I’d carefully hidden. The demons that haunted me. My parents’ ghosts watched from nearby as I sliced down the man’s arm. I suspected Kai knew some of what I got up to but never spoke about it. Nobody talked about Pirate King business, but this was personal. Now, my brother was involved.
We would be equally guilty in this, and he made sure I knew it when he looked me in the eyes before slicing into the man himself. Maybe he had demons of his own. We took our time torturing the fucker and didn’t speak about it. He dared to lay his hands on Rosalyn, and the one thing us siblings could agree on was that he was a problem.
It wasn’t until I watched all signs of life leave him and we tossed his body into the hole that I realized we weren’t alone. Kai lit and tossed in the match when my eyes landed on her nearby.
Her mouth was open in shock, and she stood still. Caught in a moment she wasn’t meant to witness. I knew we should’ve driven her to my house before taking care of him.
I fucking knew it.
My eyes narrowed on her until she nodded and slowly approached. The three of us watched the body burn. The scent was sickeningly sweet before it only smelled like burnt leather and something foul.
The fire slowly vanished after burning through all it could. The embers were smothered, as Kai was the first to start covering the body in dirt. I grabbed my shovel and helped pack it on top. We filled the hole and moved some of the grass around to make sure the area blended in. Nobody said a word.
It was quiet as we loaded the tools in the back of my car. I dropped Kai back off at his truck before taking Rosalyn home. She stayed right by my side as I washed off the shovels and knives, then put them back in the hidden compartment of my car. I felt on edge and didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what she would do.
All I could think about was wrapping myself around her, but I needed a shower. She didn’t say a word as she followed me around. It was comfortable silence as I turned on the shower, stripped out of my clothes, then stepped in the water. I didn’t notice how tense I was until I felt her hands on me beneath the spray.
I knew the truth of the situation then. She could’ve ran screaming, but she didn’t. She allowed herself to be guilty of what happened when she touched me. Her fingers trailed down my dirt-covered arms before lacing them with my bloody ones. I swallowed and stood still, and she got on the tips of her toes and placed a soft kiss to the corner of my mouth.
I relaxed as she let her hands get dirty, then washed me clean. Her eyes darkened as her touch lingered near my cock that was growing harder by the second. All I could think about was sinking into her, and I couldn’t wait any longer.
Her hands moved to my neck as I lifted one of her legs and thrust inside her. I backed her against the tile wall as the frenzyovertook. I wouldn’t be satisfied until I was marking her as mine again in whatever way I could.
Her teeth bit down on my lip as I quickened my pace. I didn’t stop when she came around me or when the water felt cool against my back. I lifted her in my arms with her still on my cock, her legs wrapped around me, as I turned the water off and carried her into my room.
I didn’t care if we got the blankets wet. I just needed to be wrapped up in everything Rosalyn.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
ROSALYN
Iwatched as the beautiful nightmare clawed out the man’s heart and ate it. The woman behind me screamed. I fought back tears as my veins felt frozen. I couldn’t watch. My feet stumbled until I turned to see them appear behind me. The men who held my heart.
