Hours later, after making love to my Fae King, my one and only Mate until my muscles ached in the best of ways and my heart was so full of love, I thought it might burst, the question that had been poking at the back of my brain finally came together. Before I could even get my eyes all the way open, it popped right out of my mouth. "How long have you been in Dragoon Bootay? And did Fate have anything to do with you being here?”
“Would you believe I just got here last night? And I do not have confirmation that Fate had anything to do with it, but I know that I was led here by a great power.”
Rolling over on my tummy, sure to stay in the cradle of his arms, not worried that I was completely naked for the first time in my long life, I lay my hand on his chest and my chin on the back of my hand and grinned, “No way! Really? You just got here last night, and even though you felt compelled to be here, not once did you see a tall, bombshell with a killer rack and rainbow-colored hair dressed in camo and wearing combat boots?”
"Swear to the Goddess, I just got here last night," he chuckled, the sound kickstarting my libido all over again and the rumble of his chest tickling my hardened nipples. “And I know very well what Fate looks like, but I haven’t seen her in ages. Why do you ask?”
“Let’s just say she has a way of turning my life upside-down on a whim.”
Once again, he chuckled, and I just barely kept my composure. I wanted that man so bad I was sure my eyes were crossed and my heart was going to beat out of my chest.
I would never get enough of my man – never ever never. I was in lurve, lubs, and love, and that was all there was to it.
“Well, I guess Fate could have had a hand in our meeting. You see, three days ago, I had the craziest, most wonderful dream. I saw you, my gorgeous Dragon Queen, the Welcome to Dragoon Bootay sign that no one but the Magical can see, and the front of your coffee shop. The next day, I woke up to find an email asking me to take over the Dragoon Bootay Fire Brigade. I called Mayor Stonebeak, and she asked me to come as soon as possible. One more call to my guys, two days to get us all in one place, and well, here we are.”
“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times – Fate will not be denied, and Destiny is my new best friend.”
“I like the way you think,” Kai purred. “And I love you, Martha Mary Margaret Dellencourt-soon-to-be Rí. I love you so much. I think we might never leave this bed. Well, maybe just long enough for you to make some of that world-famous coffee of yours, and to make our Mating official. Goddess knows we're gonna need our strength for what I have planned.”
Scooting up his body, loving the way his breath hitched, and the deep blue of his eyes started to swirl, I once again felt our hearts beating in sync, and I pressed my lips to his. Kissing my Fae King with every ounce of love I felt and the hope of all our tomorrows, I whispered directly into his mind, “And I love you, Kai Rí. More than all the coffee, chocolate, and all the shiny things in the world. Now, lie still and let me have my wicked way with you. Coffee comes later. And as for a proposal, that was cute, but I want a real one.”
“Damn, woman,” he sighed, returning my kiss, our passion, adoration, and love growing with every passing second. “I do love the way you think, and your wish is my command.”
Until we meet again…
I want you to do something for yourself…
Replace the ‘B’ in Bucket List with an ‘F’ and get out there and set the world on fire-Goddess knows I am!
XOXO, Martha
EPILOGUE
Love is in the air. Coffee’s in my cup.
Nearly five hundred years later, and he’s still not shut up!
“I am so excited!”
I was literally bouncing on my toes. I could not contain myself. My shop was rebuilt, better than ever. I had a Mate that I loved with all my heart, and my boys were happy, healthy, and adored Kai. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of and so much more.
“I know you are,” Kai chuckled as he leaned across the counter and laid his lips to mine. “And so am I,” he whispered before kissing softly.
Groaning and huffing and exasperated breath when he pulled back, I made a show of being irritated as he reached for the coffee– Kai’s Fiery Frothy Fire Chief’s Special– I’d whipped up just for him. Holding onto the bright, shining silver travel mug bedazzled with red crystal flames and blue quartz waves that I’d personally designed, I couldn’t stop the giggles that escaped through my lips when he pouted and sniffed, “Please, Martha, my love, may I have my coffee?” With the twinkle in his eye getting more pronounced, he added, “I promise to rub your feet and kiss your toes when I get home tonight.”
“Done!” I cheered.
Still holding onto the mug, I crooked the index finger of my other hand and waited until he leaned towards me. As soon as his lips were within reach, I laid a loud smacking kiss on his cheek and laughed out loud when he groaned, “And here I thought you were gonna give me a reason to stay home.”
“Any other day, I would do exactly that. I’d even try to throw you over my shoulder as I locked the doors and carried you upstairs, but today…” Stepping back from the bar, I spun to the left, humming a happy tune. Lifting my arms over my head in my best ballerina pose, I twirled my way to my Mate, loving that he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me to him.
One really long and extremely hot kiss later, I stepped back, swatted his beautiful backside, and motioned to the door. “Go on, Chief. Stop tryin’ to change my mind. Go make our little town safe from all manner of flame and fire.”
“Except the Dragon kind, right?” He chuckled, kissing the tip of my nose before backing toward the door. “Sure, you don’t want me to stay?”
“Oh, I want you to stay…” I tilted my head to the side and tried my best to be coy. I even batted my eyes. Then, when I couldn’t take it any longer, I laughed, “Oh, get outta here. I gotta open this shop and you gotta go be the Fire Chief.”
Giving me a salute, Kai turned and walked to the door. Stopping when it was open just a few inches, he looked over his shoulder and winked, “I love you.”
