It’s too late to control the way my cum bursts out of me, hitting Everest on his chin and cheek, some landing on his lips as someone gasps in horror.
Please, whatever god is listening, tell me I did not just come on Everest’s face while his brother watched.
But my prayer goes unanswered as both Everest and I turn to look at Elton.
I’m the first to react. I shove a throw blanket into Everest’s hands while simultaneously fumbling to pull up my shorts. “Shit! Elton! What are you?—”
“Doing in my own home?” he shouts, covering his eyes as Everest wipes the cum off his face. “Getting some water, but now I can’t make it to the fridge because I’ve been blinded by what I just saw.”
“We can explain,” Everest rushes out, jumping to his feet, his trembling legs buckling as he does.
Elton finally drops his hands, and I hate the way Everest gasps at the sheer fury he finds in them. Throwing his hands inthe air, all flustered and pissed, he waves at us. “Explain what? That my brother just had my best friend’s dick in his mouth?”
When Everest flinches, I bare my teeth and stand. “There’s no need to yell.”
“There’s every fucking need!” Elton screams even louder. He points an accusing finger at Everest, who shrinks under his scrutiny. “He’sthe guy? Everest? What were you thinking, Rhys?”
I take Everest’s hand to try to calm him. Elton can be as pissed at me as he wants, but he’s not going to refer to my boyfriend with that level of disdain. “It’s none of your business?—”
“It’s entirely my business! I asked you to look out for Everest and you fuck around with him instead? And you!” His anger turns to Everest as he takes a harrowing step forward. “Out of all of the guys you could have had, you had to pick my best friend?”
“Elton, I’m sorry you had to find out this way,” Everest says, and I’m so proud of the way he holds his ground, even though I know he’s terrified. “We were planning on telling you.”
“A little too late! I just saw—” Elton grimaces, rubbing his eyes as if that’ll take away what he witnessed. “No, I don’t even want to get into what I just saw. This is so fucked up.”
Everest squares his shoulders. “You’re not being fair.”
That word triggers something in Elton. He snaps his head, cocking it to the side as he snarls. “Fair? This isn’t about fair, Everest. It’s about what’s right. You two together…”
“What?” Everest’s voice cracks at the end and betrays his feigned confidence. “What’s so wrong about it, Elton?”
“It’s just…”
“Say it!”
“It’s not okay!” Elton roars, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. “That’s what it is! You two messing around is not okay!To think that you thought this brilliant idea of yours would end well! Find someone else!”
I love my best friend. Our co-dependent bromance has been heavily witnessed, but I don’t think I’ve ever hated something as much as I hate him at this moment. I know he’s shocked and I know this wasn’t the ideal way to find out, but Everest is right, Elton isn’t being fair. He’s speaking out of anger and his anger is directly affecting my man.
I wrap an arm around Everest’s waist, supporting him, standing up forusas I grit my teeth. “Stop screaming at him.”
Elton scoffs. “So now it’s two against one? I see how it is.” He opens his mouth like he wants to say something else, but stops himself. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he turns his back on us. “Fine, enjoy each other. We’ll see how long this lasts.”
“Elton, let's talk about this,” Everest says in one last attempt to mend the situation.
What I see in Elton’s eyes is so foreign. The man who keeps all his true feelings locked up tight and hidden away is gone. Now I can see just how devastated he is. Devastated, furious, but so fucking cold it scathes even me. “Now you want to talk? After years of ignoring me, you finally want to talk? Fuck that and fuck you both.”
Everest and I let Elton go. I can see that Everest wants to say something, but I settle a hand on his arm to silently let him know it’s not a good idea. Elton’s a great guy, but he’s not being so great right now, and I’m afraid of what he’ll say if we keep pushing him to talk.
Everest finally lets himself crumble. Tears fall down his face as he buries himself in my arms. I’m also shaken and hurt, but he comes first. I pet the back of his head, murmuring against his ear. “It’s going to be okay.”
“No, it’s not,” he sniffles, shaking his head. “He was so mad.”
“He’ll come around,” I insist. “He was just shocked.”
He pulls back to rub his eyes, his fingers trembling as he does. “I fucked up. I should have told him, should have been a better brother. I’m so stupid.”
“Don’t say that about yourself,” I snap. There’s no way in hell Everest is falling back into the habit of talking down to himself. Not on my watch. I cup his face and press my forehead against his. “He just needs some space. None of this is your fault.”
