A monster, I want to say, but it doesn’t ring entirely true to me anymore.

I’m not sure why.

“I want you awake when I fuck you for the first time, sweetheart,” he says. My cheeks heat. He saidwhen.“I want you to remember every punishing stroke of my cock, every bit of pain and pleasure, every orgasm you beg me for.”

My mouth goes dry.

The air in the room is too thick to breathe.

The heat in my cheeks spreads throughout my body. A strange vibration swells in my abdomen. I cross my legs, but it doesn’t help. The friction only intensifies the feeling in my core.

“Tell me what happened last night,” I say around my heavy tongue, trying to change the conversation.

Alexander’s face darkens. Did I do something wrong?

“Keller drugged you,” he says through gritted teeth. “If I didn’t get to you in time…” His voice trails off, but it’s enough for me to remember.

It appears in fragments.

I was weak and woozy after Liam asked me to dance with him.

Dread and disgust coiling in my throat afterward. His greedy hands on my body.

The next thing I remember is Alexander kneeling on top of him, bashing his face.

“Did you kill him?” I ask, staring at the wall.

Now that I can remember Liam’s bloodied and mangled face, it won’t leave my mind. A chill runs up my spine. His face was worse than Dolores’.

“You stopped me.” He sounds bitter. “So, no.”

I release the breath I was holding. I chance a look at Alexander.

He stopped.

He stopped becauseIasked him to.

I’m relieved. Even if they did something wrong, I can't bear the thought of anyone else dying because of me. I already have so much blood on my hands.

“Thank you,” I say thickly. “For saving me.”

Alexander doesn’t receive my appreciation the way I hoped.

It angers him, as his features darken into a scowl.

He stands, taking a menacing step towards the bed. It’s in this moment I comprehend just how vulnerable I am—we’re alone in his cavernous room, and I’m wearing just a pair of panties under this thin t-shirt.

He looms over me. My chest tightens.

“If I didn’t get to you in time, Keller would have raped you. I wasn’t even supposed to be on campus last night,” he says, balling his hands into fists by his side. I know that must hurt, but it doesn’t show in his movements. “I told you to stay away from him!”

“I didn’t seek him out,” I say. “He just asked me to dance. I didn’t think it would turn into this.”

“You didn’t think he would try to fuck you against your will?” He laughs, but it’s an empty, mocking sound. “You’re too naive, Allie. Don’t you know where the fuck you are?”

I bite my lip, sucking in a breath.

The truth is right behind my teeth.
