Satisfied the cocoa was finished, she turned off the gas and poured it into two large mugs emblazoned with big, yellow smiley faces. “Let’s sit in the living room by thefire.”
He took a mug from her and followed her to the sofa set before the fire. After setting down his cup, he keptpacing.
“Will you sit down? You’re making menervous.”
“I cannot. There’s something you must know, Darcy. Something few othersdid.”
The unease curled tight in her stomach. “Sit. And thentalk.”
Adrian sat, his hands on his knees. “It’s about Lars and why he had reanimated. Why he was so difficult tokill.”
Darcy licked her lips, wishing he wanted to talk about football scores.Or nuclear war. Anything but this. Shewaited.
