Halftime Report, Las Vegas vs Montreal

River Center, Montreal, Quebec

January 30

“Welcome back to the halftime report. What a game.I don’t think we’ve seen Vegas get this roughed up since they brought Silver on.”

“It’s a wild game.Five penalties called in ten minutes of play, and all on the Senators. The Coyotes are so beat up they can’t get any momentum on the power play.Do you think this has anything to do with the rumors that Vegas trying to turn their reputation around?Perk, you played against Vegas.Do you think they’re a dirty team?”

“Listen, Vegas is wasting their talent. You have Cole Graham, a complete powerhouse of a player.Toughest player in the AHL.He’s six-six, 240 plus pounds. He can throw some haymakers and move the puck. When he’s on the ice, there are either points being scored or teeth being lost. Then they’ve got Silver. One of the best players in the league now.I know there’s been chirping that he’s getting old, but he’s racked up fifty-two points. He can shoot from anywhere on the ice.Top that off with he’s not going to back down from a fight.Players don’t want to tangle with either of them.So I’m not sure why Vegas doesn’t want to capitalize on that. But to answer your question, is Vegas dirty? Not any more than Florida or Boston.”

“I don’t know if Silver and Murry had a lover’s quarrel, but he’s seen seven minutes of ice time, and it is starting to show on the scoreboard.Let’s hope we see some changes in the third period or Vegas is going home with another loss.”

CHAPTERFORTY-FOUR

WYATT

February 3

I watched Julian shave.Watched the way he moved around my space. His things spread out across the large counter.Proof that we had a life together.Since coming back from Reno, we had slipped into this comfortable lie.A lie that there was no outside world. No Maverick. No soon-to-be ex-wife.Just he and I in this perfect life that we had built on a house of cards.Sometimes after Julian fell asleep, I’d try to picture what our life would be like.I watched it play out across the ceiling.Flashes of what we could have if we weren’t on borrowed time.
