My nose brushes her cheek. “It’s a damn nightmare at this point, kitten. Tormenting me, robbing me of sleep.” My fangs skirt her neck. “Just the idea of tasting you is enough for me to lose control and cum in my pants.”

Her cheeks are red, but those blue eyes widen, lust so strong, they turn black. Black, like my heart, like the darkness we both hold deep inside our souls.

Her mouth parts, leaning close. My groin jerks, hard and throbbing being this close to a woman I want—need.

Whatever she’s done to me, I want it gone and to sink deeper into it.

“You’ll never taste me,” she promises.

Surging forward, I claim her lips into a brutal kiss, fangspricking her tongue as I taste the euphoria of her blood. Growling, my free hand digs into her locks, tugging her until I get the angle I want.

I plunder her mouth, gulp down her moans and steal her breath as if it’ll sustain me. Maybe it will. My heart races, her hips fitting perfectly against me, her touch sending me into a frenzy.

This. This is why I’ve needed her. She feels like something I’ve been missing.

Ripping away, I exhale, watching her chest shudder with every breath. I’m not the only one affected and I grin.

She touches her bruised mouth, eyes wide.

“Never say never.”

Chapter 27

Kaden

Shoving off of her, I lead us to the top, thoughts racing. I’m expected to battle a Fury, after that? The entire world tilts, my mind muddled as I try to understand what I feel for the blood summoner.

It was supposed to be easy. Why isn’t it now?

“All of this because of Finnick?” She whispers, brow furrowed.

“You shouldn’t speak another man’s name when you’re with me,” I tell her, glancing back. “Because I might find him, slice his throat and strip the flesh from his bones to make you a crown. Just to remind you who truly owns you.”

She scoffs. “You don’t own me.”

“We’ll see about that.” She shivers and it isn’t from the wind blowing over the top.

Except for a few brittle trees and sand, the area is open.

Grabbing her elbow, I duck behind the rock cave, pushing her into the smooth stone. My back heel is on the edge and my left leg is crossed over her petite ones. If she sneezes, we both fly off the side to our deaths.

“Get off.” She elbows me, voice shaking. “Just because you kissed me, doesn’t mean I want you to touch me.”

Gods, she atrocious at fighting.

“I beg to differ. But, if you haven’t noticed, I’m keeping you from being killed. There’s no cover here. So stop moving,” I bite out, pinning her hand as she tries to hit me again, “and refrain from throwing us both off the cliff.”

“If you get off of me, I won’t,” she snaps, but I ignore her.

“She’s not here,” I say, pointing. “The lord will be in the nest, if still alive.” The nest is across the way, made of human bones. The ones at the bottom are yellowed from age with freshly cleaned white ones on top. She’s been working on it for some time.

Shoving from under me, Max darts through the clearing, to its side, slamming into the wall as a few bones rattle.

OnAzure’s good graces.

Swiftly, I follow, sword pulled. “You’re being reckless, Max. If the Fury returns while we’re unprotected, we’re her next meal.”

“You’reher next meal,” she points out. “She takes bad men, right? I’m sure you have a black heart.”
