He frowned. “What is it?”
“H-He’s not dead.”
He stared at me like I’d grown a second head. “What? I buried him. I know he’s dead?—”
I shook my head. “He’s not. He was at my house only months ago. With Levin.”
His hands shook on my waist. “I do not understand. How?”
I shrugged helplessly. “I don’t know. Fallon took Bianca. Stefan is the one who came to them. Because of Drake?” I frowned, really hoping I got the story right. I wasn’t privy to a lot of it. “Stefan was off the grid he said. He was working on taking people out. I think.”
Klaus blinked several times before shifting me off his lap. I watched him grab his clothes and begin putting them on.
“Do you know where he is? Stefan?”
I shook my head. “I-I don’t. With his girlfriend? Natalia?”
He let out a growl.
I sat forward. “Klaus?”
He finished buttoning his shirt, his pants already back on.
“I need to go. I-I have… fuck.” He pushed his feet into his shoes before grabbing his jacket and shrugging it on.
I got up, the blanket wrapped around me. “I-I’m sorry?—”
He shot me a look that made my stomach twist. He didn’t say a word as he opened the door and left, though.
And that scared me.
EIGHTY-FIVE
ROSALE
Iwaited around for Klaus to return, but he didn’t come back all night. In fact, he didn’t return for two nights and wasn’t answering my messages.
Feeling like I messed up and probably came off as an asshole for knowing about Stefan and keeping it from him, I decided I needed to get out of the apartment.
I put on one of the dresses I had, a short purple number, and my high-heels that I had to lace up my calves, and made my way out on the town. Klaus had told me before which clubs weren’t owned by mobsters, so I picked one off the list and went to it.
It had a line, but I was escorted in with a few other pretty girls, thankfully.
The inside was spectacular and could rival any of Matteo’s clubs. Lush furniture, a big dance floor, a DJ, several bars, and cages with people dancing in them.
It did have an upstairs, which I was sensing was a theme for VIP customers. Since I wasn’t one, I didn’t really care. I went to the bar, ordered my favorite drink, and sat on the stool to sip it.
An hour and a half and four drinks later, since I was trying to take my mind off all the shit in my life and feeling pretty down in the dumps, I went to the dance floor and danced with the crowd.
I knew I’d have to look for a place of my own for sure now. It wasn’t like I’d stopped entirely, but I had to admit I liked staying with Klaus.
But he didn’t want me in the long run. Hell, no one seemed to. I needed to get my shit together and figure out what I was going to do with my life. It was nice to be free, but at the same time, I missed Fox so much, and everything seemed like a band-aid in comparison to it.
I missed my guys. I missed Anson.
Hell, I missed my life.
I could sign the damn contract. It would certainly take me out of this life. It might even distract me. I wasn’t sure. Everything was so damn confusing, and I was scared of what signing it would mean. I really would leave this life behind.
