"You don't have to go up with me, but I was thinking this Saturday if the weather holds."

He nodded. Just once, but the quick affirmative shake of his head reassured me. It restored my own confidence in my piloting abilities. Davis was a pretty cautious guy. If he was willing to fly with me, put his faith in my abilities, I had to have at least as much trust in myself.

We lingered over dinner, Davis helping to clean my plate when I tapered off, not wanting to be too stuffed for what I hoped would come next.Me.

"More wine?" Davis offered, gesturing to my empty glass. I nodded, and we cleared the table together, putting the dishes in a tub for housekeeping. The tiny kitchen was too small for a dishwasher.

We settled back on the couch with fresh glasses of Gentle Flight's Pinot, and I sighed, relaxing into the cushions.

"Do you want to hear what I have in mind for dessert?"

Davis's question dropped like a hand grenade in the silence.

Chapter 24

Sophie

"I have an insatiable sweet tooth," I admitted.

"Hoo. High bar," Davis murmured. But he didn't look worried. If anything, he seemed pleased.

I slid closer, pressing my thigh against his, enjoying the flash of heat that came from the contact. A little buzzed from the wine, I was as relaxed as I was going to get. Prowling closer, I slid my thigh over his, until I was seated facing him in his lap. "Tell me more about these treats you brought."

He cleared his throat, tucking my hair back behind my left ear, the move so delicate, I nearly purred, nudging my head into his hand, wanting more. That tiny touch wasn’t enough to satiate me, not by a mile.

“I wanted to be sure you come away satisfied tonight, so I brought reinforcements: flavored lube and a vibrator.”

I pulled back slightly, watching his expression. “Davis, you made it to the bottom of my underwear drawer, didn’t you?”

“I did,” he said, meeting my gaze steadily.

“And it inspired you to buy supplies?” I asked, entranced that he’d do so much to please me.

He shrugged, the motion casual, as if he bought sex toys every day. “I’m guaranteed to have a good time. I figure a few extras might ensure you did the same. It’s been a while for me.”

I wreathed my arms around his neck. “Davis, that all sounds lovely. But do you know what really gets me off?” I whispered, dropping a quick kiss on his mouth.

“Tell me.”

“I like it a bit rough,” I admitted, watching his expression carefully. My breath caught as I waited for his reaction, the leap of trust ratcheting up my tension. I’d scared more than one guy away by coming on too strong. Everything about Davis indicated he was made of sterner stuff.

He swallowed. “How rough are we talking?”

He looked more intrigued than concerned, and I undulated against him, pressing my hips into his.

“Not safe-word wild, though, just in case, mine is ‘unicorn.’”

“Ms. Sunshine and Rainbows likes it tough, huh?”

I bit my lip, enjoying the flare of desire in his eyes. “The best rainbows come after thunder and pounding rain.”

“Until there are unicorns.”

“Exactly,” I said, pleased that he seemed game.

He bracketed my hips with his hands, kneading gently at my glutes. “I want another keyword to let me know I’m on the right track,” he said after a pause.

I squinted, tilting my head. “Like an affirmation?”
