I laugh.
“You laugh a lot,” he points out with an amused expression.
“That’s because you are kinda funny,” I admit.
“Is that so?” he asks evenly. I am not sure if he agrees or not or if he is annoyed, but he seems reluctant to leave. His gaze wanders from the window to the other side, where his room must be, then back to me.
I look at him for a while, not sure how to react. Then, however, my sense of compassion wins over. He looks so lonely. It must suck to have so many people suffocating you with all this attention when all they want is just your name and your rank. “I am hanging out with Ella and Dave later. Do you want to join us? We are just grabbing a few burgers.” I don’t know why I said that. A low-ranking Omega inviting a Lycan prince out…ridiculous.
To my utmost surprise, his eyes light up. “Really?” he asks. There is a sudden air of excitement about him. “It wouldn’t be weird if I joined you? And your friends wouldn’t mind?”
“Not at all. And rest reassured, they won’t devour you with their eyes,” I pause, frowning. “Well, I am not so sure about Dave, but Ella is definitely not going to harass you.”
Ella merely raises her eyebrows when she sees Finn. “Hi,” she states informally. She has never cared for anything concerning rank. She goes by the credo:no one has handled me with respect. Why should I show them any in return?“I’m Ella.”
“Uh,” Dave grins. “Look who is gracing us with his presence. His majesty, Prince Edge-”
Ella elbows him.
“Prince Sexy.” he corrects himself. Better than Edge-Lord, at least.
I look at Finn with a grin. “Don’t mind him. He is like that with everyone.”
“And you guys really don’t mind?” Finn asks.
Dave waves his hand at him. “Baby, your presence just made my day!”
Ella shrugs. “I am not surprised. And I certainly don’t mind.”
“What do you mean?” I ask her, taking a seat. “Not surprised?”
She rolls her eyes. “Lost puppies, remember,” she whispers.
That again. I only roll my eyes at her words, glad that the waitress approaches us so we can order our food.
“How come you are here without your Beta?” Ella asks curiously after we get our food and drinks.
“Well,” Finn explains. “I don’t need a babysitter.”
“You sneaked off?” Dave asks with a grin.
Finn shrugs. Part of me is appalled by the lack of responsibility he shows, but the other part finds it’s also weirdly endearing and cute.
“You can take him along next time. If he is hot, I won’t mind,” Dave points out with a beam.
“Do you have to hit on everyone?” Ella raises her brows.
Dave grins. “It’s my coping mechanism, darling. After all, I spend all day with you two hotties. I don’t want to feel inferior.”
I sigh slightly. “Sorry, Alpha,” I tell him.
“Finn, call me Finn, please. I am not a reigning Alpha,” he explains.
“But you are an Alpha by blood,” Ella points out.
He shrugs. “And? It’s not like that makes me anything special. All my siblings are Alphas, and my two older brothers and father are stronger and more skilled than I am. Believe me, ranks don’t mean a thing in my family.”
“I kind of like you,” Dave says bluntly.
