Exactly. He looks happy now.Dante never thought he would meet his second chance... and look at him now.

Ella is very strong and kind, but she has been hurt so much.I say with emphasis. So did Dante. If they allow it to happen, they will be so good for each other.

Liam nods.Dante is my best friend, and for many years he was my only friend. When his family died, he was devastated. We were all scared he wouldn’t make it. Now the goddess has blessed him with a second chance.

I squeeze Liam’s hand, my heart swelling with thankfulness.

“Maybe we should start?” Elden offers, probably to diffuse everyone’s attention from Ella and Dante and give them some privacy.

“There is some coffee and tea prepared,” Flora beams, dancing and fluttering around Elden gracefully. “Follow me, everyone!”

Dante looks at Ella, his gaze full of longing and a bit of confusion, before reluctantly following his Luna and Alpha.

Ella turns to me. “He is so…” Ella pauses.

“Old?” Marius raises his brows. He has been leaning next to the door, watching. He tries his hardest to make sure everyone knows he doesn’t care. I’m sure it’s just a pretense. I wonder why, though? He was also the only one of Liam’s siblings who didn’t visit me in the hospital.

“Manly,” Ella states, a bit starstruck.

Marius sneers. “Well, that’s one way to put it.”

Liam shoots him a deathly glare, but Marius just shrugs. “What? How old is he? Fifty?” I inwardly roll my eyes. Dante doesn’t even look much older than Liam, and Marius is well aware of it. He just wants to mess with us.

“He is thirty-two,” Liam mutters, pretending like Marius just asked a normal question.

“And how old is she?”

I wonder if he is doing it on purpose… riling people up. I can see Liam getting slightly pissed again. I’m not one to get provoked easily, but I definitely won’t let anyone be mean to Ella. “She is twenty-one.” I point out calmly before I take Ella’s hand, deciding to take her away from this situation. The last thing I want is for her to feel bad about finding her mate. “Come, Alpha Elden wants to talk to you in particular.”

Liam follows us. “I didn’t know you were older than Annalise,” he says with interest.

“I started school later,” her eyes are sad suddenly. “They wouldn’t let me start school at first. Then … I don’t know why… apparently Alpha Marcus was scared to attract too much attention.”

Liam nods, it seems like he wants to ask more, but as we meet the others in the meeting room, he decides to save that talk for later. The coffee and tea provided for everyone gladly takes some of the lingering tension away.

Ella takes a deep breath and looks at us. “I’m ready to answer anything you want to know.”

Chapter 37 Ella

*ANNALISE*

Ellalooksatallof us, ready to share what she knows. I’m so proud of her. I know it must be difficult to be in her position, coming from a dangerous and traitorous pack and standing up against them for what is right. I’m glad that Elden and Flora made sure that she doesn’t feel cornered. And the fact that she happens to be Dante’s mate, helps to ease the tension further. Beta Vincent and Beta Calvin look ready to listen to what she has to share.

“First of all, I would like to know more about you,” Elden starts. “Annie and Liam said you are an outsider in your pack. Is that true?”

“I have traitor blood in me,” Ella explains.

“Who did your parents betray?” Elden asks.

“I… I’m not sure. I think our Alpha?” she admits. “But I don’t know any details.”

I look at her in surprise. We have never talked much about it since I know it’s a sore topic. “You don’t know for sure?”

“I don’t know much.” She says. “Seems like they were somehow… revolting against something.”

“Against what?” Liam urges.
