“So you don’t want to leave him behind?” My heart takes a hopeful jump!

“I can’t.” She smiles a bit. “I just can’t let him go. I, I don’t know how to say it, but he is slowly healing my soul.”

“Then the both of you will work something out,” I say firmly, nodding my head. “If you have already decided not to leave him, then that's one decision less to make.”

“But how can it work?” Ella blurts out. “What if I really go back to Red Claw after everything, and he stays here with Liam and you? What if I can’t stay here?”

“I don’t know what will happen,” I admit. “But you don’t know either. No one can tell what’s going to happen. Maybe you will save Red Claw and then realize you would like to stay at Silverlake? Or maybe Dante has his own plans? How about, for once, you allow things to just happen? Dante’s feelings and decisions will be based on his past, pack, and feelings for you. Everything’s beyond both of your control! It’s not bad. I bet it’s like that for everyone.”

“You think so?”

I snort. “When does life ever go according to plan?”

She chuckles. “Okay, I will try to be more optimistic,” she promises. “And concerning Dave… We need to make sure he stays safe.”

“Yep, and definitely prevent him from being lonely.”

“Once things get back to normal, we have to meet regularly again,” Ella muses. “Let’s promise.”

“All right,” I smile. “Promise between sisters of the heart. We can’t break it.”

“Ever,” Ella adds with a genuine smile.

“So, what are you up to tonight?” I ask.

“Well… I have plans…”

“Oh, you have a date,” I tease her.

“Dante invited me for a walk. He is… really patient. We literally haven’t done anything besides walking and strolling around and sometimes eating together. He wants to show me why the pack is called Silverlake,” she tells me.

I grin, remembering how Liam took me on a very similar date when I came to Silverlake for the first time. “Oh, it seems like that’s a common way to swoon their ladies.”

“Hm?”

“Nothing,” I chuckle. “Have fun!”

“Thanks, Annie,” she hugs me before taking her leave.

I notice Liam’s presence again. We try not to invade each other’s space through the mind link; we both need our privacy. But now that I can smell him around the packhouse again, I decide it’s time to comfort him a bit. I know he went out of his way to promise me things and adapt to my wishes. And although I didn’t think any of my demands have been overly unreasonable, I still really appreciate it that he is so willing to change the way he thinks… for me. He is an Alpha. He could have easily overpowered me anytime. He never did.

I decide not to take the elevator and instead run the few levels upstairs. His scent gets stronger and stronger the closer to our suite I get.

He looks up when I come into the room. He probably smelled me too. His pupils are dilated slightly, a smile curling around his lips.

“Hello, my mate,” I say when I close the door behind me, leaning against it. He just came out of the shower, it seems. Only clad in black boxers, his body still slightly damp.

“We are going without names, I see?” he tilts his head, eyeing me playfully.

“You don’t like it?” I ask. “Maybe you like me to call you something different?”

“Like what?”

“Hello, Alpha,” I say softly, noting how his eyes darken slightly.

I tug at the waistband of his boxers to pull him closer.

He smirks. “The car to the meeting will leave in an hour.”
