“I love it,” I breathe out when he carefully puts me down into the water, its warmth engulfing me instantly and soothing my aching muscles. I move gingerly, groaning slightly at the ache I feel. Liam settles down behind me, pulling me against his chest before carefully massaging oil into my skin.

Leah feels as relaxed as I do. Her presence has been particularly strong recently. She has always had my back from the moment I felt her for the first time. But I noticed how she had gotten stronger since we met Liam and then again when we started training with Elden. And now after becoming Luna, she seems to be way more present than before. I like it.

“What are you thinking?” Liam asks.

“That I’m more in touch with my wolf recently,” I explain.

He nods. He seems to contemplate saying something but doesn’t.

“Liam,” I turn my head to look at him, smiling warmly. I nuzzle against his chest. “Don’t hold back your opinion. I told you I’m also your best friend.”

“I noticed your growing connection to your wolf,” he admits.

I’m curious now. “How?”

“I think ever since we marked each other.” He pauses. “You were more self-conscious before and wary about yourself and me…and us. But that night, when we decided to mate and mark each other… It’s like at that moment you decided you didn’t mind our differing ranks, about anything else.”

My eyes widen a bit at his words. I didn’t think he would be so attentive to my feelings. And honestly, I didn’t even realize it myself. “You think it did something to Leah too?”

“I think, in a way, you accepted your wolf side that night. You told me she was always considerate of your feelings, but I guess from that day on, in a way, the table turned, and both of you started standing as equals.”

I lean back into his arms again. He is right. I feel more confident and comfortable in my skin. Fending off my kidnappers, saving Liam, and taking over as Luna of the pack probably spurred Leah on further. Sudden excitement fills me. I can’t wait to see her grow stronger and stronger.

“Say something,” he urges me, sounding worried.

“Oh,” I chuckle, I almost forgot he was still waiting for me to say something. “I can’t wait for her to become even stronger and to have her as my equal at my side. It just dawned on me how cool Leah is.”

“Fenris agrees,” Liam says in amusement. “Though cool isn’t quite the word he used. It was more like-” he lets his voice drop a few tones. “Mate is hot.”

I giggle helplessly at him, impersonating his wolf. He kisses my neck again. I turn over and wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him into a heated kiss.

We spent almost two hours in the tub until Liam rubbed and massaged every ache away. It’s then that I realize I’m so hungry I could eat a whole cow, with potatoes as a side dish. And veggies. And pudding.

Liam seems to think similarly. After we finally got out of the tub and dress again, he grabs my hand leading me out of our suite and downstairs to the dining hall. The kitchen is running at full power again. It took a few weeks of organizing and planning everything; and each Friday, I sit together with Renata and Marilou and plan the menu for the next week. As we originally decided, breakfast and lunch are buffets, with the exception of Sunday, where plated brunches are served.

Liam and I make our way towards our table, happy to notice that Ari, Jun,Ella and Dante are there. Something about them has changed. He’s holding her hand, their fingers intertwined, the other hand rests on her knee, and Ella places a soft kiss against his cheek. She looks so happy; it warms my heart.

Liam obviously notices it, too, his eyes lightening up at seeing his old friend so relaxed and happy.

“Someone is late,” Ella teases when we sit down next to them.

“What can I say,” Liam deadpans. “It was a long night.”

Ella groans, while Dante chuckles. Aryanna laughs openly. She’s never one to be embarrassed by anything.

“And someone is sporting a fresh mark,” I shoot back with a glint in my eyes.

Ella blushes a bit before she beams at me with a smile.

“For real,” Liam exclaims, clasping Dante’s shoulder. “I’m so happy for both of you.”

Jun doesn’t seem to listen and instead types something on his phone, smiling slightly. “You look happy, Jun.” Ella points out.

“Oh,” he looks up, flushing a bit. “It’s nothing.”

Ella wiggles her eyebrows. “And who is that nothing on the other side of the line?”

“Oh, that’s Dave,” Jun says, obviously trying to keep his tone casual.
