Marius looks at his brother. “Are you for real?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding?” Liam asks in return.

Marius laughs loudly. “You really want me as your backup!?”

“No,” Liam says earnestly. “If it were for me, I would have taken Finn along or Aurelia, but I obviously can’t.”

“They are both showing leadership qualities,” he agrees half-heartedly. “Ever since Aurelia joined the warriors, she’s changed and become so much more focused and serious.”

“You are a risk to me, and you are well aware of that. I still want you to come with Annalise and me, though. No matter the risk, you are still my brother, and I’ll feel better having one of my siblings with me. You have great skills and are strong, and I would appreciate your support.”

Marius stares at him in surprise. He doesn’t get angry, though. Much to my surprise, he seems to be shocked by Liam’s honesty but also appreciates it.

I always thought Marius might have a problem with me, but now I’m beginning to understand that his issues might be deeper-rooted.

“I’m just asking once, Mari,” Liam emphasizes. “I want you to come with us. It will mean a lot of work for both of us. But if you are up for it, I am too.”

“All right,” Marius says simply.

Liam looks up at him. “Are you sure? I’m going to be your Alpha there; and Annalise, your Luna, and I can’t cut you any slack…”

“You said you would only ask once.” Marius points out calmly. “When do you want me to move, Alpha?”

His tone is not provoking this time. He calls Liam Alpha to show him he’s ready to accept his position. Liam and I exchange a surprised glance. “When are you ready to move?” Liam asks.

“Anytime. I can pack everything by tomorrow.” Marius says shortly.

I nod. “Please help Emerson and Daisy with packing too. They are moving a whole household and could need some help.”

Marius nods.

“Prepare everything for Sunday.” Liam orders. “Everyone who joins us from Silverlake will move on that day.” He reaches out his hand to shake Marius’.

It’s settled.

Chapter 61 The dress

*ANNALISE*

Thenextfewmonthspass in a blur. We have so much work to do that we decided to have the important ceremonies only when the pack is fully running again. But now it’s time, and my Luna ceremony will be in a week, and I’m freaking out now… for real. There are going to be so many wolves present. So many Alphas and high-ranking members from different packs. Sometimes I tend to forget that Liam is a royal Lycan. His family doesn’t live like kings and queens. They haven’t built a castle. They are not wearing crowns or showing off their power. But they are royal, and everyone knows the power they hold.

There are only five royal Lycan families in the world.

And the Alcotts are one of them.

I completely forgot about it because, to me, Liam is simply Liam, my mate. And he would never want me to see him as anything else.

But for the inauguration ceremony, it’s going to be different. There are wolves and Lycans from all around the world coming to see it. I kept wondering why they made such a fuss about that ceremony until realization dawned on me. It’s not only him becoming Alpha, but also him climbing further up the royal ladder in terms of rank. And it’s not only because Liam became a pack’s Alpha but also because, now that he has a mate, it means the Alcott-lineage of royals will continue. He is Elden’s firstborn and with that, he inherited a lot of gifts and powers by birth, and his pup – especially his firstborn – will continue the legacy.

And to make matters worse, they are coming to see me.

It’s like a wedding without a wedding.

They are presenting me to society.

And I’m not ready!
