“She doesn’t have any siblings?” Anders asks.
“Her brother died during labor… her mother shortly after during a rogue attack,” I answer, not wanting to go into details. Losing his mate took a toll on Alpha Cedric, but he was strong enough to remain a good Alpha to us.
Finn looks a bit sad suddenly. “I feel for her. I’m an Alpha’s child too, and I don’t particularly fill the expectations, but I have siblings who love me. I always have someone who backs me up, like Liam, who does all the difficult work and shields me from our father whenever it’s necessary. I have my mother, who is there for us to make sure we are happy and healthy. Celine was betrayed by one of her closest childhood friends, adds insult to injury. To me, Celine seems like she is alone most of the time.”
“Well, not anymore!” Dave says with conviction. “She has us now!”
“And Harmony,” I smile proudly. “She will be a great Beta.”
We continue to gossip and chat a bit, but it doesn’t take long for Celine to join us. “Hi guys,” she says tiredly and drops down on the chair Anders offers her.
“I would offer you a drink,” Ella says in sympathy. “But Finn is too much of a goody-two-shoes to have any in his room.”
“Excuse me,” Finn splutters. “I’m not a goody-two-shoes! I just have a reputation to keep.”
I roll my eyes and turn to face Celine. “What happened with Lauren?”
“I will let my father deal with her further.” She sighs. “Though I can already tell you what she will say.”
“She will probably deny it,” Finn muses.
Celine nods. “She already started to claim that someone stole her phone. She is even blaming it all on the older guy who attacked Annie like he manipulated her.”
“She already harassed Annie once,” Ella points out. “Doesn’t that count?”
“There’s no proof though that she did worse than that,” Finn grumbles. “I know how shitty such a situation can be. She probably will just say she had a crush on Liam or blame it on her wolf.”
“And the guys who attacked Annie?” Dave wants to know. “Don’t they know the truth?”
“Unfortunately, the younger ones don’t know anything. They just went along with Marc, the older one,” Celine sighs. “And Marc claims that it’s all on Lauren, while Lauren claims it’s all on him. It’s his word against hers.”
“Lauren has never broken our laws before,” I mutter. “No one will believe Marc.”
“Also, I bet her father is high-ranking in your pack and will protect his little princess?” Finn asks.
“Her father is our pack’s current Beta,” Celine explains. “However, he is very loyal to the pack. I doubt he will be happy with what Lauren did, even if he believes her story.” She frowns. “But believe me, as the future Alpha of the pack, I will definitely not let this slide. Even if she denies it, I know the truth. And I will definitely give it my all to unravel it. I already have the okay from my father. He is furious about what happened.”
I’m impressed. I always knew Celine had it in her, but it’s awesome to hear her talk like that and see her resolve.
“What happened to the punks who harassed Annie?” Ella asks.
“As for the oldest guy, Marc, he got thrown in a cell. Seems like he harassed a few girls around the pack,” she explains. “They were too scared to tell anyone about it, but now they are stepping forward one by one.”
Dave grimaces. “Gross.”
“Yeah, good riddance,” Finn mutters.
“As for the other four,” Celine continues. “Two are sixteen. They received a whipping.”
“By your father?” Finn asks.
She nods.
“If the Alpha himself is doling out the punishment, it’s definitely not a lesson they will forget anytime soon,” Anders muses.
“The other two are only thirteen,” Celine explains.
“So young!?” I ask in disbelief. “Goddess, they really didn’t know what they were doing!”
