“Just asking.”

It’s so weird. Red Claw wolves mostly keep to themselves. They don’t mingle with other packs. They are held on a very short leash by their Alpha. There are rumors flying around about all the abuse happening. How come Ella is allowed to roam around freely then? When the time comes, I need to make sure to ask her more questions. Now with so many other people around, in public, it would put too much attention on us.

*ANNALISE*

We stay in a hotel room for the night. Liam has booked it to surprise me. Only recently, I told him that I have never been to an actual hotel, well, aside from my spa day with Harmony. It indeed takes my mind off meeting his parents tomorrow which I assume was his plan to begin with. The room is huge…, with a bathroom and toilet made out of marble, a small living room with floor to ceiling windows, and a spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed. “Liam,” I chuckle. “I would have been content with a simple room, you know that?”

He smiles, kissing my shoulder. “I know.”

We both get ready for the night, my nervousness kicking in again. I’m meeting his parents tomorrow, his family, his pack. This is probably the most important step I have to take. I wonder if he felt tense too when he met my family. But then again he doesn’t have to move to my pack, I have to move to his… It’s so important to me that his family like me.

I took a long, relaxing shower and got into my pajamas. They are made out of satin in a dreamy dark blue color. My mother bought them for me to upgrade my wardrobe. She seemed more than a little happy that I have a few more colorful pieces now.

I sit down on the king-sized bed, feeling the soft red fabric of the linen beneath me while waiting for Liam to be ready too. When he re-emerges from the bathroom, I can barely catch my breath. He is clad in black satin pajamas, his trousers dangerously low, his shirt unbuttoned.

He looks so delicious.

“What’s going on in that head of yours?” he asks softly. “Tell me your worries.”

“Promise me you won’t laugh.”

He looks at me, his gaze sincere. “I would never laugh at any of your worries.”

I pull my legs up. “I’m so normal, Liam.”

He stays quiet for a long while, but then he shakes his head. “You are perfect.”

“Aren’t you scared of what people are going to say? About me being an Omega? I… I have never had issues being an Omega. I love Leah, she's the best wolf to me, but you're a Lycan Alpha. People will talk and laugh at me. And I can take it, but…”

“I have never once cared about your rank.”

“I know. I hate how my nerves are getting the better of me,” I admit.

“Listen, Annalise,” he takes my hand and pulls me closer. “While it's true that there are some traditionalists and elitists within the Alphas out there who will shame us both for what we have with each other, they don't matter. In fact, I won't accept any disrespect toward you. Your rank doesn’t matter, no matter what anyone tells you! Everyone who meets you for the first time is captivated by your charm. You carry yourself with dignity and strength, and it’s visible to everyone. You are fun, charming, cute, and incredibly kind. You will be a wonderful Luna one day. My family already knows that you are an Omega wolf. They don’t care. You know Finn well by now – did he ever give you the feeling that he would judge you?”

I shake my head. “Not at all. He was very respectful from the first moment on, even before he knew that I was your mate.”

“See.” He smiles. “Besides, you have an incredible gift too, which you tend to forget about.”

“What kind of gift?”

“Alpha status does not work on you,” he explains.

“Isn’t this a worry for you?” I point out. “Doesn’t it concern you? Alphas like to be dominant, and they hate to get talked back to. You will never have that control over me.”

“Of course, a part of me might be annoyed occasionally,” he admits. “But it also means no one will ever be able to control you. You are an Omega she-wolf, but at the same time, you can never be controlled. That’s an incredible gift. It’s almost like the Moon Goddess made sure you will be safe around me and especially around the people who might target us.”

I tilt my head. I have never seen it like that, but obviously, he is right. No one will ever be able to elicit information out of me or force me into something I don't want. Strong Alphas surround Liam, he isn’t the only one, but they won’t have power over me. I will only listen to those I want to listen to. I smile slightly. “Thanks for telling me how you see things. I… sometimes my nerves get the better of me.”

“It’s the same for me,” he admits.

“What do you mean?”

“I envy you.” He pauses. “Sorry, that came out wrong. Of course, I love you, but one part of me is amazed by your abilities.”

I look at him in confusion. “What do you mean? What kind of abilities? You are an Alpha, so not being mind-controlled by others is not a thing for you.”

“Not that ability.” He sighs. “I’m talking about how everyone likes you.”
