“I will need to thank him later,” I acknowledge.
She nods. “Elden already mind linked me. He was very worried. He wants to see Aurelia immediately when he is back. And also Nox.”
“My sister is a tough cookie,” I say proudly.
“Your mate too,” she points out. “What a surprise! She is a true little fighter!”
She is right. I’m beyond shocked she managed to surprise attack one of the men and was able to free herself from her restraints. She also kept a cool head throughout it all.
“She is not a warrior, though. Keep that in mind,” my mother says. “She fought for her life down there. She will be exhausted and drained. You never know what something like this will do to someone. Just be there for her, ok? There are things she won’t be able to tell you.”
“What do you mean, Mom?” I ask in immediate worry.
“She was in there with a bunch of male wolves,” my mother puts a hand on my arm. “They probably tried to force themselves on her. That had to be a horrifying experience.”
I feel my anger coming to the surface again, ready to just stomp into the cells and kill the remaining attackers, but my mother pulls me out of it. “You can’t react like that in front of her,” she says softly. “Just be there for her, listen to her, but don’t get angry too fast, or she won’t tell you anything. I can only talk for myself, but I think it will help her know that she tried to defend herself. So, don’t forget to praise her for it!”
I stay silent for a while before I nod. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Dante and my father approaching. My mother jumps up and rushes towards my father, throwing herself into his arms. “I’m so sorry,” he mutters into her hair. “You had to be so worried.”
He holds her for a while, hugging her close until she calms down again.
“How are my little girl and my favorite assassin?” My father wants to know.
“Aurelia is recovering. She will be awake soon, so better hurry there.” She smiles. “Nox barely made it, but he survived.”
My father lets out a deep sigh of relief. “What a day.” He approaches me, patting my shoulder. “Your mate will be a fantastic Luna one day,” he says unexpectedly. “She really surprised me.”
“I told you she is the best,” I smile.
“Well, we are truly blessed with our mates,” he chuckles.
“Did you want to test her down there when you suggested that she decide on the attacker’s fate?” I ask.
“Not really. Well, maybe a bit.” He shrugs. “I honestly felt that it was her call. I would have gone with any decision, but admittedly I really liked what she said and how she explained it. I can’t believe she is only nineteen and an Omega wolf. It shows once more that rank doesn’t mean anything at all.”
“Is she really immune to wolfsbane?” my mother asks curiously.
“And to silver, it seems,” I point out. I can’t help the proud smile that appears on my lips. “Isn’t that fantastic?”
My father nods. “It is.” He takes my mother’s hand. “Let’s go and see Aurelia.”
I wait for what feels like forever. All my siblings visited me, inquired about my mate, and reassured me. Even Marius looked sincerely worried, and we both put our differences aside for a moment. At one point, my parents sent them home to get some rest. Marius volunteers to look after the twins while Finn stays with me. Meanwhile, my parents visited Aurelia, Aryanna, and Nox. Mom decides she will be staying with Aurelia for the night; she just returns briefly with my father to make sure everything is alright with Annalise. Just when they join us, the doctor appears with a tired but reassuring smile. “Everything went well. She is sleeping. Neither the bullet nor the knife hit any vital organs. She just lost a lot of blood.”
“Thank goddess,” I breathe out. “I will go to her now.”
The doctor nods. “She is still sleeping, though. All of this was very exhausting for her, so make sure she takes it slow, Alpha Liam.”
“Is there a way we could help her a bit?” my father wants to know with a worried gaze. “I feel bad that she already got abducted on her second day here. I want her to wake up and feel safe.”
The solution comes to me quickly. “Her mother.”
“Huh?” my father asks.
“She will probably relax more if there is another familiar face around. And she is really close to her mother and her sister. Harmony has pack duties to attend to now, but I think by now, Alpha Cedric has spoken to her parents, and her mother will be really worried. She could help Annalise recover.” I tilt my head as another idea hits me. Ella… That way, I can ensure that she isn’t involved… that she is truly loyal to my mate. “Oh, and her best friend, Ella.”
“That’s a promising idea,” the pack doctor nods eagerly. “But not any more visitors. Her mother, her friend, and you, Alpha Liam, are enough.”
“What about Flora and me?” my father asks. “Eventually, we need to talk to her.”
