“Technically, you didn’t ask me. I offered.”

“Technically...” I frown. “I put both of you in a difficult position. Yet, I can’t regret it.”

Elden chuckles and squeezes my shoulders. “I believe we are all adults. I promise we will be able to handle it.”

I let his words sink in before I nod tentatively. I know Liam doesn’t want me to get hurt, but I still need to learn how to fight to stay safe. I can’t always rely on others to save me. I will talk to him again later. I’m sure he will understand.

To my surprise, Flora greets us at the entrance door, waving excitedly. “Elden!” she exclaims angrily. “You had Annie the whole afternoon,” she pouts. “Don’t you have any business to attend to?”

Elden grins, approaching her swiftly and hugging her close. “I do indeed.” He smirks. “But it was such a pleasure to spend some time with my future daughter-in-law,” he teases. “She told me so many things. All the things I know now, you won’t believe it.”

Flora puffs her cheeks. “I wanted to do that first!” She smacks Elden’s chest before turning to look at me. “Annie! We have to spend time with each other! Now!”

“I… Can I take a shower first?” I ask, dumbfounded.

“You have fifteen minutes,” Flora commands. “I will prepare snacks!”

Elden waves us goodbye with a grin before retreating.

It takes me almost an hour afterwards to reassure Flora that I haven’t told Elden anything she doesn’t know yet and that he really just trained me.

She crosses her arms in front of her chest. “He always does that,” she complains. “He is such a tease.”

She is kind of an easy victim though, to be fair.

“So, you didn’t tell him anything juicy?” she asks, frowning a bit.

I shake my head.

She beams. “So, this means I’m still ahead of Elden. You can tell me something now! Anything.” She looks at me excitedly like a little kid. “I just want to win against him.”

“What…” I stutter. “Like… what?” Heck, I underestimated her. I guess I’m no match against her.

She stirs her coffee. “Liam loves you,” she says, much to my surprise. This isn’t what I expected her to say, but then… when it’s about Flora, it’s better not to expect anything. Unpredictable is her second name. “I have never seen him look at someone the way he looks at you. It touches my heart to see him like that.” She smiles. “Just indulge me for a moment, dear, and reassure me: Do you love him too?”

“He didn’t mate and mark me immediately after our first meeting. We… we went on dates, and I got to know him.” I blush slightly. “I fell in love with him before he marked me.”

She beams. “That’s all I wanted to know. Now the only thing missing are grandchildren,” she squeals. “I want to be a granny!”

Something about how she squeals it and how she looks like she is aging backwards makes it a bit hard for me to imagine her as a… grandmother. I freaking took her for Aurelia when I met her for the first time.

Sitting here on the veranda and having cake and coffee with her is a treat. She is the Luna of Silverlake pack, and I know Liam wants to make me a part of the pack on the night of the next full moon in two weeks. I used to be scared about becoming a part of this huge and important pack, but now I can’t wait for it.

I love Moon Blood, it’s my home, and I have so many good memories there, but I have also really grown to love Silverlake Pack too.

However, it means that Flora will be my Luna…, and I will be her successor. This is finally the perfect opportunity to ask her about everything and shift the topic away from giving her grandchildren. I have no idea what I’m getting myself into as a Lycan Alpha’s mate, but she does.

“Flora… may I ask you something?”

She nods eagerly. “Anything!”

“I have been thinking a lot recently… about my future. How I can contribute to the pack… but also what I’m supposed to do at Liam’s side. I… I was not raised for this. But being with Liam,” I pause. “Being his mate comes with certain responsibilities and expectations, doesn’t it?”

Flora turns more serious at my words. “You are thinking so far ahead already?”

I tilt my head. “Shouldn’t I? Of course, I want to enjoy the moment, but the bottom line is… Liam is a Lycan prince and Lord Elden’s successor. And I’m his mate. This is my reality.”

She nods. “It’s good that you already think about your future.” She reaches out her hand and takes mine into hers. “You are right. In your future, there will be banquets to attend and political gatherings to hold. There will be Alpha and Luna meetings. Don’t worry; I will not let you go into this unprepared, Annie.”
