I can only nod. I loved her attitude. After the initial shock, I loved how she wasn’t intimidated by me. How she tried to make conversation and told me I was funny. She was surprised and shocked, maybe; but she wasn’t scared. Our Alpha status doesn’t work on her.
Great, just great.Fenris grumbles.Got ourselves a handful. Just don’t mess it up!
I don’t plan on doing so.I lock my car, approaching our huge packhouse. The top floor is the Alpha residence. There is still light shining through a window.
You are too much in your head sometimes,Fenris groans.
I ignore him skilfully, thinking back to the moment I met her tonight. It was truly fate that I joined Finn tonight for his college party. Marius had canceled on him, and knowing that Finn would be upset, I took it as my responsibility to accompany him. I noticed her scent immediately. The intoxicating aroma of roses, mixed with the lightness of the sun and a hint of lemon and ginger.
When I locked eyes with her, I met the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes. Her eyes were lighter in the middle, honey-coloured, sparkling and shining full of life. The full lips, the beautiful heart-shaped face. Albeit not tiny for an Omega she-wolf, she was a bit smaller in height than others. I just wanted to grab her and hug her. The perfect fit for my arms.
My trail of thoughts gets disrupted by noises coming from the kitchen. When I open the door, slightly confused as to who is still up, I catch sight of my mother, clad in a satin nightgown and shoving spoons full of ice cream into my father’s mouth. He chuckles and lets her do as she pleases, smiling whenever she giggles. I have never seen two wolves as intoxicated by each other as my parents. My strong, huge father, with his wild hair and beard, is basically getting played by my giggly petite mother on a daily basis. He doesn’t seem to mind, though, and indulges her in whatever she wants to do most of the time. She brings forward his soft side.
I hope Annalise will do the same. Most wolves are rather intimidated by me like they are by my father. But our mate gives us a new side, makes us more approachable.
“Ah, Liam, honey,” my mother swirls around, taking a few light steps towards the fridge like a fairy dancing and hopping over a lake. “You are back late.”
My father nods, eyeing me thoughtfully. “We expected you earlier. Aryanna was getting restless.”
Aryanna is my second Beta, right after Dante. They are both my fiercest allies. Normally she accompanies me everywhere, whereas Dante remains on the pack grounds to ensure everything is going well during my absence. I need to explain everything to her later. It must have been confusing to everyone that I canceled the meeting. If there is one thing I am, it’s very reliable. I hate being late. I hate when someone doesn’t take their tasks seriously. In that sense, I am even stricter than my father. “I got delayed,” I explained calmly.
My sense of responsibility is probably why my father shrugs the situation off. He knows I would never miss an important pack meeting if it weren’t necessary. He is only wearing his pajama pants, grinning when my mother returns from the fridge and taps his chest with her fingers, making walking movements starting from his belly button up to his chest.
Normally I would have calmly excused myself and left them alone. Today though, I find them funnier than usual. I chuckle slightly, ready to grab a snack and retreat when I notice that both of them are staring at me. My mother gasps. “Did you just laugh?”
I raise my eyebrows in mock amusement. “You are acting like I never-”
“I saw it!” She interrupts me. “I clearly saw it. Elden-” she excitedly hammers her fist against my father’s chest. “You saw it too. Right?”
“Yes, Flora, I did,” my father throws me a thoughtful glance. His eyes are dark brown, darker than normal for Humans. He has these stern eyes which could bore into any counterpart. “But I don’t necessarily deem it unusual. It-”
“It’s absolutely unusual,” my mother interrupts him as well. She is probably the only person who dares to do it. He doesn’t even bat an eye at it.
I can hardly keep my amusement in check while watching her antics. I am normally way better at staying distant and hiding my emotions. I am about to retreat for real now when my mother suddenly squeals and rushes toward me. She throws the ice cream tub away while doing so. My father catches it before it drops onto the floor.
She makes a silly victory dance in front of me. “I can’t believe it! Liam!”
“I am taking my leave.” I nod politely. “Good night. See you tomorrow morning.”
My father nods toward me. “Good night.”
“Wait,” my mother exclaims. “You can’t just leave! You need to tell me her name! What’s her name!?”
Her words make my father blink in surprise, his eyes widening. A very rare expression of confusion is on his face. “What do you mean, Flora?”
“Tell me,” my mother begs.
I snort in amusement. “Good night, Mom.”

*ANNALISE*
It’s8AMwhenI head to the cafeteria for breakfast. I wasn’t lying when I told Liam I had to study today. I am not super smart or any sort of genius, so studying requires some work. And I want to be prepared for this week’s exam and paper.
My friends are already gathered around one of the tables, to my surprise. I know for a fact that Ella and Dave like to sleep in, so this is new. “You really couldn’t wait, could you?” I ask in amusement.
