“All right,” my mom takes my hands into hers. “Who is he?” She wants to know.

“Why do you want to know anything about him!?” Dad blurts out. “It’s not like I’m handing Annie over to anyone! No one can protect her better than I can.”

“Brian, shut up. Don’t be so dramatic,” my mother rolls her eyes.

“She is right,” Harmony says, throwing invisible daggers at Dad and Steve. “You two are ruining Annie’s moment!”

“No,” Steve blinks. “We didn’t mean to.”

Dad nods. “Sweetheart, continue. You can tell us anything.”

“I can?” I shift around nervously. Come on, Annie, this is your family. They will have your back no matter what.

“It’s Liam,” I hear myself say without further explanation. “Liam Alcott. From Silverlake Pack.”

And just like that, they all fall deathly silent.

Chapter 13 Mom always knows

*ANNALISE*

Mymotheristhefirst to regain her composure. “Well,” she claps her hands. “That’s what I call an announcement.”

Harmony nods. “Exactly what I thought. You really don’t half-ass anything, Annie.” She laughs. “A royal Lycan. That’s something!”

Steve and Dad still stare at me in shock. “A…” Dad shakes his head slightly as if to wake himself up. “A Lycan? A Lycan Prince?”

“Alpha Liam Alcott?” Steve asks, flabbergasted. “Is he really a true prince, though? His father isn’t king or something?”

“No,” mom interrupts him. “Did you never listen to our history lessons? When people hear prince or princess, they imagine tiaras, tulle, crowns. But it’s not like that for the royal lineage of Lycans.”

“What is it then?” Steve wants to know.

“The royal Lycans lead the Council that rules over all werewolves. It’s based in Paris. Members of the Council are either royal Lycans or wolves with special abilities,” Harmony explains. “Liam’s father, the current Alpha of Silverlake, is an actual Crown Prince of the Council. He could take over the Council. It would be his birthright. I assume he would wait, though, until his son takes over the pack. Once Alpha Elden takes over the throne, Prince Liam will be the next in line.”

Steve stares at mom and Harmony for a while before looking at me, eyes wide.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I rub my temples, feeling a headache approaching. “I’m shocked too.”

“So,” Harmony smiles sweetly at Dad and Steve. “Still going to fight him when he takes your Annie away?”

She is merciless sometimes. But I can’t help the grin spreading on my lips. Mom laughs.

Dad frowns. “Why are you laughing!?”

Mom chuckles, leaning against him, allowing him to pull her into his arms. “At least he can protect her,” she states.

He looks down at her with a smile, like she is the most endearing and beautiful being to him. It makes me wonder how I look when I see Liam or how he looks at me. When they kiss, Steve grimaces, finally waking up from his shock. “Not here, please! Think of your poor, innocent children!”

“Annie has a Lycan as a mate,” Mom says in a matter-of-fact tone. “How innocent do you think she is?”

Dad and Steve groan like they are in pain, engulfing them in a new discussion about how to keep me safe from any horny werewolves. Meanwhile, my mother pulls Harmony and me aside. “Let’s have coffee,” she says. “I want to know everything!”

I tell mom and Harmony everything… well, not everything, but most of it. Honestly, I enjoy this little girly moment we are sharing. It doesn’t often happen that Mom, Harmony and I are together without any male interruption and can gossip as much as we want.

Eventually, Mom leaves to make dinner, and Dad begrudgingly goes to see Alpha Cedric to tell him the news. Harmony and Steve stay with me. It’s finally time for my siblings and me to let our wolves free.
