Chapter 3 Prince Finn

*LIAM*

Iaminthemiddle of going through some bills and documents when a non-stop ringing at my door pulls me out of my thoughts. I don’t even need to take in his scent to know it’s my little brother. I open the door, annoyed. “Ever heard of patience, Finn? What are you, five?”

“Spare me the grumpy look,” he grins and waves a bag in front of my face. “I brought you food.”

I raise my brows. “And I am supposed to believe that this is a mere act of kindness?”

“Yes,” he offers. When I keep staring at him, he sighs. “I thought I could crash at your place today and study.”

“Wait…” I furrow my brow further. “Didn’t father make sure you have a place at the dorm? Did something go wrong?”

Finn waves dismissively. “No… everything is okay.”

“Really?” I frown. “Then I assume you wouldn’t mind if I sent you back?” I pause, noticing he is on his own. Entirely on his own. “And where did you leave your Beta? You are really putting him in a tight spot. You know that, right? If something happened to you, father would be seriously angry.”

“Wherever I go, they go nuts!” he blurts out, to my surprise. “I have not one single peaceful moment unless I stay in my room all the time.”

I can feel my stance softening. “That bad?”

“I have no idea how you dealt with it when you were there,” he mutters.

“I ignored them,” I point out. “They kept their distance most of the time.”

“Must be nice being scary,” Finn mutters.

I can’t agree with him. It didn’t matter when and where… in school, college… Everyone was scared of my rank… Lord Elden’s firstborn, future Alpha. But they were also intimidated by my height and strength. Making friends is impossible when no one even dares to talk to you. Finn looks edgy and grumpy, but he is more approachable and fun to be around, and he just knows how to make conversation without making it awkward.

I let him into my apartment. It’s more like an office and a place to sleep for me if I have to attend meetings. Together with my father, I invest in real estate, selling and renting, and I have a little IT start-up which is going pretty well. Pack money has to come from somewhere.

“And your Beta?” I inquire further.

“I will call Anders now.”

I cross my arms.

“What?”

“Call him.” I stare at him. “Now.”

“Stop treating me like a child,” he argues.

I roll my eyes. “Then stop acting like one!”

“Man, you really need to get laid,” he mutters. “Your mate most definitely isn’t around the corner. So why are you wasting your time?” I can see him bite down on his tongue immediately after saying it.

“Call Anders,” I demand.

“Liam, I am sorry,” he blurts out. “Shit, it came out wrong, really! I don’t think that low of you, ever. I am sure you will find your mate.”

I look at him again. He and my sister are the most honest of my siblings. Finn would never intentionally hurt anyone. “Call Anders,” I tell him. “And we’ll see. That food of yours better be good.”

He smiles in relief and finally takes out his phone, calling his pitiful Beta. Poor guy has a tough job. It’s still not okay though how easily Finn can sneak away from him. He needs to have his guard up. I will make sure to talk to Anders later.

Five minutes later, Finn joins me in the living room. “And?” I ask him.

“Anders will come immediately,” Finn tells me. “Don’t give him a hard time, please. It’s my fault anyways.”
