“Say, where is Sugar?” Esme asks us, obviously trying to shift the topic away from her brother’s sex life.

“We have to keep him at home,” Raffy explains. “Until the alpha is sure he won’t harm anyone in the pack.”

“Alpha Liam told Jazz to find a spell that will help him see the pack members as allies,” Stella explains further. “The alpha doesn’t want to risk Sugar accidentally assaulting someone because he thinks that during a training session someone is attacking his dads.”

“Why am I the drool monster’s dad too?” Raffy groans.

I giggle. “You need to face the truth. He adopted you.”

“And he is really harmless?” Noah asks curiously.

“I wouldn’t put it like that,” I admit, pursing my lips slightly when I remember how Sugar turned into the tentacle monster and killed our attackers. “But he wouldn’t hurt Raffy or me.”

Noah snorts. “Yeah, maybe a spell would be good so the rest of us are safe too.”

The others joke more about us having accidentally adopted a demon furbaby when Annie’s mind link comes through to me.

Dave, I’m going to get some rest now and spend time with my babies. Ella and I want to go to the shopping mall at 3 p.m. Is that okay for you too?

Perfect,I answer.I can rest a bit that way.

Do Raffy and Esme want to join us?

I think Raffy wants to squeeze another training session into his schedule.I grin.He is way too motivated, but I will make sure to bring Esme along.

Awesome, please tell her to be ready at 3. Celine will meet us at the mall.

Will do so.

Thanks! I can’t wait for it. It will be so much fun to head out together… like in the old days!

She is right. We haven’t been shopping in forever. During the last couple of days, I never left the pack grounds. It’s going to be so good to finally step into the world of the living again.

Chapter forty-eight

Pay Day

*DAVE*

“Goddess, everyone, youneedto try these.” Ella sighs while she bites into a huge bubble waffle.

“I’d rather eat a hot dog now,” Celine muses. “Or a pulled pork burger.”

“Oh, or crepes,” Ella muses. “Sweet or salty, I don’t mind.”

“That’s a good compromise.” Celine chuckles. “Marius loves them too. I think I’ll buy some before I return to the pack house.”

I listen to them ramble about what they want to eat, raising my brows. “How can you eat so much? I don’t know about Celine, but the rest of us had lunch two hours ago.”

“You should be aware by now how much we train,” Ella laughs.

“Wolves have a strong metabolism,” Annie explains to me, linking our arms.

I look at them in mock annoyance. “Well, good for you, I guess.”

They all laugh while we make our way through the mall. It’s been a few weeks since I saw Celine, and she’s looking as fabulous as usual, and so happy. She told me over and over again how happy she is for me to be mated to a great guy and part of a pack now. I’m just with the girls today, and it’s good to see Esme loosening up while being surrounded by so many ranked members. Her fear was obvious when she realized that Celine was an alpha, but Celine wouldn’t be Celine if she didn’t know how to handle it.

Annie has a whole group of guards with her. They’re following us subtly and are mingling with the crowd not to raise any suspicions from the humans.
