Beta Thomas raises his hands. “It’s alright, just please don’t start crying again.”
“Yeah, we swear, we didn’t sleep with your mate,” one of the warriors reassures me, a slight tremor of panic in his voice.
By now I wish the ground would indeed swallow Raffy and me. Ella and Annie exchange a gaze; they know me well enough to guess parts of the story already.
Alpha Lucas looks from us to his beta and warriors, then to Liam, and then back to us. He grins all of a sudden. “So, you are the crazy human nutcase with his rogue mate. They pulled a code red on you and let you go because they decided it would be safer that way instead of outing our world to you. Said you were adamant that they had a gangbang party with your mate.” He pauses, his grin broadening. “But seeing how you are here, I have the slight feeling that things are a tiny bit different from what we think they are.”
“A bit,” I admit, flashing him an innocent smile.
“This is a story I need to hear later,” Alpha Elden mutters to my surprise, sounding amused.
“Me too,” Liam says.
“You will be invited to dinner at the alpha suite on Sunday,” Annie says. “There is no escaping that story!”
“Alright, alright,” I give in. “But make sure you have some drinks ready.”
Fortunately, they all drop the subject after Raffy, and I officially apologized to the poor guys we tricked. They find it funny now and laugh about the scene we acted out for them. In the meantime, Liam and Annie step away from our group and walk towards a beautiful pavilion.
It’s about time, I figure.
I let go of Raffy’s hand, kissing him softly before retreating to the sitting area and sitting down with Stella and Portia. Portia has brought a glass of wine and sips at it while watching the spectacle. “Wolves are truly a one-of-a-kind species,” she says, sounding intrigued.
I’m about to agree with her when I can see a shadow approaching us. Oh no, fucking no! Does everything today need to be awkward!? The shadow runs straight past the group and basically jumps on my lap. Everyone turns around to look at me now. Not even I can handle that much embarrassment.
“Dave, is that your demon-dog?” Ella asks into the silence.
“Sugar!” I exclaim. “How did you get here!” I frown. “Oh, don’t you dare eat anyone here!”
“A demon dog?” Alpha Elden blinks.
“It’s another longer story,” Liam sighs.
“Did he grow bigger?” Annie asks curiously.
“Well… technically he is still a pup,” I explain. “Stella told me he is not fully grown yet.”
“Alpha, I’ll make sure to keep an eye on him,” Stella promises. She takes a potion out of her bag. “It’s finally finished; he won’t hurt anyone here.”
“He ate someone?” Marius asks into the silence. He turns to look at Celine. “Why don’t we have such a pet? Sounds handy!”
Everyone laughs slightly at his comment, finally taking the attention away from me and Sugar and back to Liam. Liam continues with his speech while I help Stella with the potion. “It includes the scent of the pack,” she explains to me quietly. “Sugar will now know that he is part of Red Claw too. He will see them as his hoard of sheep if you want to call it that way, and won’t hurt them.”
I nod contently. “How long until it works?”
“It works instantly.” She smiles, petting Sugar’s head.
I hug Sugar and brush over his fur while the three of us watch the whole group stripping and shifting. “Wow,” Portia says dryly. “This is like a peepshow.”
“Yeah,” I snort. “There are a lot of sausages indeed.”
She takes another sip from her glass. “Had I known this is how packs do their runs I’d have joined one sooner. So many boobies.” She flashes Stella a smirk. “Yours are still the best, though.”
“Well, thank you, Portia,” Stella answers, amused.
I let my eyes roam over the men. “Some impressive sausages, but Raffy definitely doesn’t need to hide his goodies.”
Portia stretches her head slightly to search for my mate. “Yeah, you’re right.”
