“Summary?” I offer.

“Yes.”

“My rogue happens to be my mate. We are being chased by his former alpha. His sister was hiding at a witch’s place. Their cover got busted because of us. Oh, and my dog ate two wolves.” I pause. “I called Annie and asked for asylum.”

There is a long silence on the other line before Jun clears his throat. “What the fuck did your dog do?”

“That’s what gets you?” I frown.

“Sorry,” he mutters. “Just… that was weird and… wait, you found a second chance mate!?”

“Yes,” I say proudly.

“You have a mate!” he exclaims.

“Yes.” I can’t help but beam, although he can’t see me.

“I knew the Goddess had her eyes on you.” Jun’s voice sounds happy. “And he’s a good guy?”

My heart warms instantly at the thought of Raffy. “He’s the best. I’m head over heels for him. I’d ask you not to tell him, but he already knows anyway.”

“I’m so happy for you.” Jun sounds sincere.

“And you and Luca?” I ask curiously.

“Marked and officially together.” I can almost hear the proud grin in his voice. “We still need to figure out our living arrangements, but one step after another. I think he wants to move to Red Claw with me.” He pauses. “I’ll have your back today, Dave. Won’t leave you hanging.”

“Thanks, man.” It almost feels like something heavy drops off my shoulders. I know I’ll need all the help I need today.

Chapter forty-two

Popular with the Wolves

*DAVE*

TruetoAnnie’sword,Ella already awaits us once our train arrives. I can see two other men around her who seem to have come with her, but they remain in the background when we exit the station. Ella helps us retrieve our car and bags, and Sugar, who had to travel with the other pets in an extra section. When I pick him up, I’m beyond relieved to see he hasn’t eaten any of the other pets.

You never know.

Ella and I engage in a lengthy hug and chat, in which she happily comments on my mark and teases Raffy for ending up with the sassiest human alive. The two men who follow her around take over my car while the rest of us drive in Ella’s massive SUV. It’s a two-hour drive, and I’m relieved to see the others slowly warming up to Ella. She asks them questions about where they’re from and what happened. Going by the type of questions she asks, I know Annie has already briefed her because she inquires a lot about Raffy, Esme, and Hayden’s old pack.

Once we approach the pack house, Liam and Dante, Ella’s sugar daddy, are already waiting for us, with a few warriors close to them, which I assume aren’t just there out of coincidence. The anxiety in the car is growing instantly; even I can feel it.

“He’s a lycan alpha,” Raffy mutters breathlessly all of a sudden. “That’s Alpha Liam! I’ve heard of him. He’s the Silver Alpha. Dave, you didn’t tell us he’s a lycan.”

“Yeah, something about how he’s the firstborn and a prince and broke out of silver chains or what have you.” I make a dismissive gesture with my hand. “Does it matter?”

The others look at me like I’ve lost my mind. “Bless your ignorance,” Stella says before she turns to Ella. She’s all serious now. “Does this pack have a witch in their services, Beta Ella?”

Ella tilts her head. “There is a witch mated to Liam’s second beta, but she is still learning. So, this is your chance,” she answers equally seriously. “Your strong selling point, I’d say.”

“Fortunately Stella is with us,” Lady Portia mutters. “We don’t have much to offer otherwise.”

It’s eerily quiet in the car until Raffy clears his throat. “You have a point, Stella,” he grumbles.

“Well, there is no turning back now,” Ella says casually as she parks the car in front of the pack house. We all climb out of the car at the same time that Annie steps out of the pack house. She walks towards me with long, confident strides, ignoring Liam’s scowl, and hugs me. “I’m so glad you made it here safely.”

“Thanks for your help, Annie,” I say.
