“Sugar returns nowhere,” I growl, feeling oddly protective of the drool monster.
“So, what is it?” Aryanna grins. “You seem to be the least dramatic person in the pack, so I can’t imagine—”
“I want to tie my fate to him,” I blurt out.
It’s oddly silent in the car, and Alpha Liam puts his phone aside and turns to look at me. “Do you know what this means?” he asks.
“I’m fully aware.”
“Does David know what it means?”
“I told him,” I admit.
“And he doesn’t want to…” Aryanna’s voice trails off. “I can see why.” She looks at the others. “So, what do you think? Opinions!”
“What…” I mutter. “Is this a group therapy session now?”
“We can use our time to help you,” she says dryly.
Some of the warriors carefully voice their opinions. They are wary about the spell but don’t really know what to think about it.
“I’m with Raphael,” one of the men says, surprising me. “Having a human mate is different… so, I think we can’t quite understand how scary it can be to know”—he swallows—“how far before us they will die.”
Liam rubs his temples. “There is a reason we hardly do that spell,” he says. “It’s a difficult one, and both parties need to be fully behind that decision. It’s irreversible.”
“I can’t survive without Dave,” I say simply.
Liam looks at me for a while, his brows furrowed. Then he turns to face the street again. “You were right,” he says. “This isn’t something we can solve now in the car.”
I will further think about this,he tells me.And have Annalise talk to Dave to make sure he understands what it means. Don’t put pressure on him, and give him time. It’s a very difficult decision for him.
I nod.Thank you, Alpha.
“Well…” I stretch slightly. “It kind of helped to voice it out loud.”
“See”—Aryanna grins—“I’m that good.”
It looks like Liam wants to say something for a moment, but the car takes a little turn and moves to a parking space. Seems like we arrived. We all wait for the other two SUVs to arrive before climbing out of the car.
“We’ll proceed as planned,” Liam says shortly, pointing at a fancy hotel. I squeeze my eyes, noticing a few men guarding the entrance. To humans, they’ll look like businessmen on their phones and notebooks, but they’re clearly werewolves and here to guard the entrance from unwanted guests. “I will approach the entrance with the core group. The rest of you will be coming from the sidelines. Once we make it inside, you will take over the position of the guards and act as backup when needed.”
Everyone nods, and the guys who belong to groups A and B, as we called them, shuffle in different directions. They are using the shadow of the building to get into position while still being away enough not to be smelled by the guards.
I’m part of the core group, and the moment we get the okay from the others, Liam gets going. He walks directly towards the entrance of the hotel in long, confident strides. He oozes confidence and dominance.
Once we approach the entrance, one of the guards stops us. “It’s a private party,” he says shortly.
Liam’s eyes darken at his impolite tone. “Well, that is your problem, not mine,” he growls.
The guard looks at him cautiously. “Only alphas with an invitation are allowed to enter,” he stutters.
“Step aside!” Liam commands. “I’ll only ask once.”
The guard seems to link someone, and soon, a group of twenty warriors floods out of the hotel and circles us. My heartbeat picks up. I didn’t expect them to be that many and to be that aggressive in human territory.
It’s like they don’t mind if they will be seen.
Remain calm,Alpha Liam links us.Don’t show any fear.
