I nod before realizing I literally just ripped him out of his sleep. “You were sleeping,” I mutter. “Sorry.”
He yawns. “It’s okay.” He grabs his phone to look at it. “It’s 8 a.m. already.”
I’m surprised to say the least. I never sleep that long usually… well, as a rogue, my sense of time is different. Dave stretches and then crawls out of the bed, revealing his legs to me. He is only wearing shorts and a tank top, and I can’t help but take in his slender frame, his rather delicate waist, and the hint of his muscles beneath his shirt. “I’m heading to the bathroom first,” he says, rubbing over his eyes.
“Sure,” I mutter, not able to stop myself from staring when he turns his back to me and pats to the bathroom. Nice ass, I think.
Oh, how I would love to—
Wait… what the hell am I thinking?
I shake my head, trying to get these thoughts out of my mind. Sure, I’ve been living in the wild for a while, but I met other rogues here and there, and not all of them were ugly… how come I feel so drawn to this human guy? It’s almost impossible for me to think of anything or anyone else but him.
I drop down on my makeshift bed on the floor and rub over my face.
Fortunately, the ringing of Dave’s phone pulls me out of my thoughts. I get up to knock at the bathroom door. “Your phone.”
“Can you check who’s calling?” Dave yells from the other side.
I peek at his phone. “Elif.”
“Oh, maybe she needs something, or I forgot to pay the last time,” Dave muses. “Could you answer it for me?”
My first instinct is to say no because I hate phones, but it seems I can’t deny this guy any wish, so I grab his phone and, with a sigh, I pick it up. “Hello,” I grunt.
There is a long pause. “Who is there?” a male voice asks, sounding shocked, worried, and guarded.
“A friend of Dave,” I say. “And you are? Elif?”
“No,” the voice says blandly. “I would like to talk to Dave.”
“Who are you if you aren’t Elif?” I ask sharply. The heck I will let a crazy psycho harass Dave. This sounds shady as fuck.
I can hear Dave’s footsteps behind me. “What does she need?” he asks me.
Oh, Elif is supposed to be a girl? Well, then that’s certainly not Elif on the other line. I shrug. “It’s a guy.”
“Might be her husband, Ozan,” Dave explains.
Before I can answer, the unknown guy interrupts me. “Tell Dave he doesn’t need to hide. Tell him Annie is worried, and she needs to know he is alright. None of us will stop him from doing what he needs to do, but we’re really worried.”
I tell Dave what the unknown guy said, noticing how realization settles in. “Tell him I’m sorry for leaving and not answering any calls or messages,” Dave says.
“Don’t you want to tell him yourself?” I grumble.
He shakes his head.
“You heard him?” I tell the dude.
“I did.” There is a pause. “Who are you?”
“Raffy,” I say shortly. “A friend. And you?”
“Jun,” he answers. “Also a friend.”
“You’re not the guy who hurt him?” I hear myself ask.
“What?” Dave gasps, grabbing my arm. “No, that’s not Matt. It’s Jun.”
