Silence engulfs us again. I don’t like the way he looks at me, though. It’s almost like he is judging me with a hint of pity. No one is supposed to fucking pity me. Who does he think he is!? He is the one who needs therapy, not me. He should be thankful to be fated to a werewolf!

“Look,” Dave says after a while, grabbing a flyer from the table next to us. “The autumn fair is going to be in town again.”

“Really?” I ask, looking at the flyer in his hands.

He looks at me in surprise. “You like amusement parks and fairs?”

I shrug. “They can be fun. I went to a water amusement park once.”

“Me too.” Dave beams. “We rode the craziest water slides there. You know the ones where you stand on a platform, and it opens beneath your feet, and you just drop…”

“I went on one of those too,” I say, surprised. I didn’t think he would have it in him to go on a crazy ride. “There was one with a huge slide and an opening in the middle. You just dropped through it. It was pretty crazy.”

“Oh, I know which one you’re talking about,“ Dave says. “I binge-watched some YouTube videos about waterslides and saw one of these. That one looked pretty tough but fun. I normally have to do this stuff because none of my friends enjoy waterslides.”

“Same.” I went to this park with a chick, but she was pathetic and didn’t even have it in her to take some rides with me. I dumped the boring bitch there and instead hit on a pair of twins.

“You know, they say they have some crazy roller coasters at this fair,” Dave muses. “They upped the attractions since they got more popular.”

“They did?” I ask, eyeing the pamphlet curiously. “Looks like it would be worth a try.”

“Do you want to go there?” Dave asks. “I wanted to go anyway.”

“Yeah, why not. Haven’t been to a fair since forever,” I say.

“Good, we can go there next weekend if you want to,” Dave suggests.

“Sounds good. And I don’t have any better plans anyway,” I say.

Dave tosses me a short glance but doesn’t say anything. He puts his phone and bag on the table. “Would you watch my stuff for a moment?” he asks. “I need to go to the toilet.”

“Sure.” I nod, watching him as he stands up and leaves for the bathroom. He is rather lean and not really muscular, but there is an elegance and charm to his presence. And that ass…

I will my thoughts away from Dave and instead stare at my hands.

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see his phone lighting up. Seems like he has a message coming in. The name popping up catches my attention instantly. Jun. Wasn’t that the ass from the first time I met him? Is he still talking to him?

I told the gamma he should keep his sleazy hands to himself! Why is he even messaging my mate!?

Grabbing Dave’s phone, I look at it for a moment. It’s locked, but not with a fingerprint. I’ve seen Dave unlock it before, remembering the movement of his fingers… I try it a few times until his phone successfully unlocks.

I have no time to waste and instantly go to his WhatsApp messages.

Hey Dave, Ye-Joon is performing this week on Wednesday. Do you want to go together as usual?

Rage is filling my heart when reading the message. Who does this Jun think he is to write my mate? And why the fuck is Dave even still talking to him!? Does he not know any decency? Is he two-timing me?

I frown for a moment wondering what to do. I could look for Jun and give him a piece of my mind, but he is the gamma of Red Claw, and my alpha would not take it lightly if I just attacked one of their high-ranking members.

Maybe I should talk to Dave instead and remind him who he belongs to?

Or… I could keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. Maybe that would be best. And for now, I should probably make sure Dave never gets to see Jun’s message. I swiftly delete the message and lock the phone again, putting it back in its place. Not even two minutes later, Dave appears again, smiling at me. “So, where were we?”

“The amusement park,” I point out.

“Right. Saturday around lunch?” Dave offers.

“Sounds good.”
