“What are you doing?” I ask, panicked.

Once he is finished linking whoever he linked, he turns his attention back to me. “Just linked the alpha and told him you would like to talk to him after dinner.”

“WHAT!?” I squeal in panic.

Deacon looks completely unapologetic. “You want some pudding before going to meet him? It was for dessert today.”

I glare at him, but when he remains to be completely unfazed, I give in with a sigh. He has already announced my visit, so I can’t chicken out anymore. I decline the pudding, though, as I can’t stomach anything when I’m nervous.

Deacon basically shoves me out of his house and towards the pack house. “You don’t need to accompany me,” I grumble.

“Oh, I do.” He grins. “I have the feeling you would chicken out otherwise.”

“I’m not going to chicken out!” I huff.

“Oh really.” He raises his brows. “Then prove it.”

“I will,” I mutter, annoyed, stomping off towards the pack house with Deacon following me. I swear he looks a bit amused, but I ignore him. I march right to the alpha office, and without thinking any further, I knock.

Only when I hear Alpha Jace’s voice asking me to come in do I realize what I just did. My eyes widen.Fuck.

We can’t go back now,Dash points out. He has been silent a lot recently, but he is slowly coming around again.

Right, I take a deep breath, entering the office.

To my utmost relief, Alpha Jace isn’t alone. Luna Janice is here, too, going through some folders. She graces me with a welcoming smile, and I can feel my tension subsiding.

“I’m sorry for disturbing you so late,” I mutter.

“Are you kidding?” Alpha Jace’s loud voice rumbles in amusement. “I was getting bored to death with going through these reports.”

Janice chuckles a bit. “This is why I’m here to help.”

“I’m more for the hands-on approach,” he grumbles before shifting his attention to me. “Why don’t you sit down, Matthew?”

I hurry to comply and sit down in one of the chairs in front of his desk.

Alpha Jace looks at me expectantly. “Yes?” he urges.

Shit, how am I going to start? He showed great mercy to me by not kicking me off the pack grounds, and he dealt with my dad. I didn’t even have to face him; he made sure I could stay with Deacon. While he punished me, his punishment felt more like he was giving me a chance.

I don’t want to be too demanding now.

Luna Janice gets up from her space now and walks around the table, resting her hand on my shoulder. “Don’t worry, just say it.”

I look at her, confused. “Do you know why I am here?” I can’t help but ask.

She smiles a bit. “I know very well what the nurses at the infirmary talk about. So, I have a feeling…”

“Now you got me curious.” Alpha Jace raises his eyebrows. He has wild long hair, which he has tied back now. Normal lycan alphas are all dignified, a bit rough, but very elegant. Alpha Jace doesn’t care about being elegant. He is super cool instead.

I shift around, nervous in front of him. “It’s just…” I mutter. “I feel like… also in battle and for training… I could be of more help if I knew a bit of… of first aid.”

Jace stares at me. I can almost see the wheels in his head turning. “You want to attend a first aid class?” he asks.

I lower my head. “I’m sorry I’m asking too much.”

“Sure,” he says. “It’s a great idea.”
