“Not for you,” I chuckle. “For Remy. He hasn’t eaten anything I made, so I will make sure to prepare something he will have. And if he won’t eat anything on Wednesday when he comes over to our pack, then I will ask him directly. He can’t escape me!”
“Finally, a plan,” Ayden says. “Then let’s go. I will help you.”
“How? You don’t know how to bake or cook. Aren’t you living off cup noodles usually, unless I drag you to eat in the packhouse?”
Ayden is a fantastic guy, but he is lazy when it comes to his own health, and he hates spending or wasting time, as he calls it, with cooking.
“I am generously offering myself as a taste-tester,” he says.
I grin. “How can I say no then? Come, let’s go.”
With my newfound resolve, I drag Ayden back to the pack and to the Alpha Suite. Both Joel and Eve are already there, having a late lunch.
“Ayden, Kata,” Eve smiles at us. “Have you eaten?”
“Yes,” I say.
“What are you doing in the kitchen then?” Joel wants to know.
“I am going to try out some new desserts,” I explain.
Eve looks at me thoughtfully, his aloof, dreamy expression making way for a curious one now. He always looks like he is sleepwalking, but when something catches his interest, he is oddly aware. “For Remy?” he asks.
Joel’s head perks up. “Oh? Didn’t he like the cookies you made last time?”
“I have been thinking,” I say, rummaging through the cupboards. “Not everyone likes the texture of cookies, right?”
“Is that a thing?” Joel asks, confused. “I thought everyone liked cookies.”
“So, I will make a crème dessert,” I exclaim. “Eve, you need to teach me. Ayden will taste-test. I need his opinion as a man.”
“Kata, we are men, too,” Joel points out.
“As a young man,” I clarify, making Ayden grin and Joel pout.
“Look at how cheeky she has become,” he complains to Eve.
Eve just shrugs. “She is right, Ayden is younger than we are. He is Remy’s age.”
“That’s not what—” Joel groans. “You know what, forget I even said anything. You bunch are weird. And I hope you all know how weird you are if I am the one saying it!”
“Here, have another piece of my quiche, and shut up,” Eve mutters, handing him a second plate before turning towards me. “Then let’s start, Kata.”
“Yes, Mission: Dessert begins!”
Chapter nineteen
Finally, Some Progress
*REMY*
My headache tortured me throughout the whole Sunday and even on Monday, so much that I could barely move, and Sean put his foot down, making me take the day off. I know he and Gabriel are nervous about this new condition. I have had headaches and migraines before, but never that long. Sean had one of my doctors come to me in secret for a checkup, but he claimed nothing was wrong with my body.
Well, not any more wrong than usual, at least.
He said, I am probably just tired or too stressed.
I am not sure if that’s true. Something keeps gnawing at my mind, pressing against it, but I don’t know what it is. Is it my wolf? But I can’t feel my wolf senses any stronger than usual, sothat can’t be it. And if it is, I don’t know what he hopes to achieve by trying to explode in my head.
