“Let me guess, your mom gave it to you.”

What the hell? Does everyone know except me?

“The answer to the question running through your small brain is yes. Ariel and I have even been down to visit her.”

“What the hell, man?”

“She doesn’t hate us.”

“I’m going to make her see that I’m not that guy anymore.”

“Glad you grew up and grew some balls.”

“I’ll show you balls. Me and you, cage, when I get back.” I can hear him laughing.

“Sure, deal. Good luck.” He hangs up. Dick.

On my way out the door, I call Sal.

“She finally gave it to you.”

“Did Ever want me to have it?”

“No, but I think you should try. You were meant to be together. You loved her before she became this skinny pageant queen. You loved her even when you didn’t know you did. It hurts, doesn’t it? To know that you could have done something but you chose career over her?”

“More than anything.”

“Guess you need toPretty Womanit, then?”

“Huh?”

“You’ve never seenPretty Woman?”

“Yes, asshole. Ever made me watch it.”

“Now you get it. Something big.”

“Thanks.”

“Good luck. Oh, you’re fighting Brick? You okay?”

“Yes, I’m okay. I just want to shut him up. He texted you already?” That was fast.

“Yeah, he did. Okay, we’ll find a venue. Charity fight.”

“Yep, thanks.”

I’m coming, Ever. I’m not letting those guys touch you. You belong to me. Get ready.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Ever

“Today we’re going to make Anne’s chicken and dumplings. I know that everyone does this, but if you follow along and make it as we tell you, these will be a hit with your family.”

Anne sets out the ingredients and tells the viewers what each item is and the brand. “At the end of the show, there will be a code to help you find each of the ingredients at your local grocery store.”

The best thing is we made huge pots of this beforehand for the audience to try. Yes, there is an audience.
