“She was me last season, except without the big secret I’d been carrying around,” I tell her honestly.
“Skye, stop,” Ever’s voice cuts in. “That’s all been put to rest.”
I don’t say anything, I just look down at my hands. I should quit the show, but I can’t. Ever mentioned Linc really needs this. And despite how he feels about me, I care about him in my own way. And I’m trying to be better. If I quit, that means someone else will lose out and I don’t want it to be him.
“Memphis, you have any big fights coming up?” Jimmy is jumping in his seat. He must be a fan.
Memphis grins at Jimmy. “Yeah, one of you.” His eyes widen as Memphis starts laughing.
“What the hell?”
“Kidding, just wanted to see your faces. I do, it’s actually with that big guy over there.” He points at Dayton, who just smiles.
Before anyone can say anything more, we hear yelling.
“YOU STUPID BITCH!” A man I don’t know barrels through the tent and heads straight for Snow.
She shrinks back as the man lunges for her.
I have no idea what comes over me, but I get in front of her.
“Move, bitch,” he yells at me. I can tell he’s drunk.
“I think you need to calm down and take a step back,” I say flatly.
“Not until I get what I want,” he yells, trying to get around me. By this time, the guys are out of their seats and taking control.
I see Dayton and Memphis push him back and hold him as security heads our way.
“You will fucking pay, you stupid whore,” the man yells at Snow, who is shedding tears. Jimmy starts to walk her in the other direction to calm her down, but Dayton reaches for her. All they do is stare at each other, but in a way, it’s sweet. Dayton puts his finger under her chin to tip her head up to look at him. If I didn’t know any better, I would think they were a couple in love.
Shelley huffs off pissed and everyone else sits back down.
Linc grabs my arm so hard it hurts. There will be a bruise in the morning, I just know it.
“Ow,” I hiss.
“Are you stupid?” He’s yelling at me and causing another scene.
“What?”
“Are you stupid? Why did you do that?”
“I was helping her.”
“Again, are you stupid? You could have gotten hurt,” he yells. Why does he even care about what happens to me?
I don’t think, I just answer, “Guess I’m stupid since I was worried about a friend.” I take off. His words hurt, but they are true. I’m stupid to still love someone who I hurt and who hates me.
Chapter Twelve
Lincoln
“Cold,” Memphis hisses at me.
“What?”
“That was uncalled for,” Ever clarifies.
