I drive until I find myself on the outskirts of town, near a cabin I own. I step out of the truck and Alexa pops out from behind a tree.

“Alexa.”

“Lincoln,” she hands me a card.

“What does this place mean to you?” Ever asks softly from behind me.

“I would bring Skye here to get away from prying eyes. It was a quiet place just to be around each other.” I have lots of memories from this place. I loved just spending time with her. She was young and I didn’t want her dad getting mad at me. I also didn’t want others to tell her I was too good for her. We would come out here and sit around the campfire and talk. I loved just talking to her.

“Shall we move on?” Ever asks as Alexa gets in Jimmy’s truck. Didn’t even know he followed us. I plug in the next coordinates.

It’s a short drive, and we end up just past the water tower where there is a grove of magnolia trees and I see Brick leaning up against a tree, smiling as we park.

“I hope I’m not here to meet up with you,” I chuckle as he hands me the next card.

“You aren’t my type,” he laughs. Same thing I said to him a few weeks ago.

“What is significant about this place, Linc?” Ever asks as I walk through the trees.

“My first kiss with Skye,” I brought her out here for a picnic. I thought it was the perfect spot for our first kiss. And it was magical. One of the best days of my life.

“Care to find out more?” Ever asks me. I readily agree. I want to know what else I’m going to remember.

I plug in the next coordinates and we end up at the high school.

Ariel steps out from under the bleachers and hands me a card with the next coordinates.

“What is significant about this place?” Ariel asks.

“The first time I talked to her was under these bleachers. She was crying and I wanted to comfort her.”

She was young, just a teenager, and she was being picked on. I rescued her like a knight in shining armor. I would like to think that I was. Even though I was older than her, after talking to her for five minutes, I could see she was smart and wise.

“Let’s go to the next one,” I tell Ever before she even asks.

Now I understand the cards. Now I understand why Ever said to walk down memory lane.

“Is she waiting for me at the end?” I ask her and she just smiles.

“You have to do the rest to find that out,” Ever says and we jump back in the truck. I plug the next numbers in and we’re off.

“You get it now, don’t you?” she asks and I nod.

“I do.” They are happy memories. With her. I just hope she’s waiting somewhere for me.

We pull up to the local gas station, the only one in town. I know why she picked this spot.

“This is where I asked her to be my girlfriend. While it was the happiest day of my life, it would soon become the saddest, a few weeks later she was trying to get with Memphis.”

“But that’s over. This is heading toward a future.”

Mason steps out and hands me a card. “Time to go.” He grins and walks off.

I plug in these coordinates and we end up at the church.

“I don’t understand,” I say as I park.

“What do you remember?”
