“Your favorite food, but the others wanted to be a part of this special day as well so I’m going to go change and then we’re opening the bar back up and having a pot luck,” I say as he helps me to my feet. He hugs me for a minute.
“I love you, Lincoln Styles,” I say, kissing his cheek.
“I love you, too,” he follows me as I change. He takes a seat on Beau’s couch and watches me.
“We could, you know . . . ” He wiggles his eyebrows. God, I want to, but here? Not ever.
“On Beau’s couch, umm, no,” I giggle, “but Shane said we can stay in the cabin.” I wiggle my eyebrows back at him and he laughs.
“I figured out who Lily and Kelsey are.” That stops me cold. But I want to know since they’ve caused a part of this.
“Mallory apologized.”
“What did she say?”
“She said she was supposed to spy on me,” I tell him.
“Makes sense. Angie wasn’t my mother. She cheated on my dad with another man and had two daughters, Lily and Kelsey. Not sure how they found out about your baby. But in some weird twist, Angie promised the guy that I would marry one of the girls. That way she would always have access to my money.”
“Wow.” There’s no words for that. I only said “wow” because I can’t put into words what I want to say. He cherished that woman, gave her the world because his father was always drunk.
“My dad is in rehab. He wants me to bring you to see him.” Did not see that coming.
“Really?”
“I found where he was and went to see him. He told me a lot of things I wish I knew earlier. And he wishes things were different, that he was here for me instead of taking to drinking. He wants to be here for my kids.”
“Guess we need to tell him the news.”
“He will be happy for us,” he kisses my forehead. I know we have more to talk about and we will in due time. But tonight is about celebrating.
“I wonder if either of them will come around again,” I wonder. I hope Lily and Kelsey keep their distance.
“Oh well, if they do, they’re not getting anything from me. My dad changed all the accounts and set me up with new ones.”
“I have something to confess,” I turn and face him, not knowing how he will take this.
“I’m all ears,” he takes my hand.
“We should sit down for this,” so he leads me to the couch.
“What’s on your mind? Other than my baby and me,” he chuckles.
“I bought your ranch back for you.”
“You what?” He jumps up and paces.
“It was me. We weren’t even speaking, you were still mad at me or hated me or whatever. I heard Ever and Memphis talking. I told them I had the money and I wanted to help. I put the deed back in your name, all you have to do is sign it,” I tell him.
He’s just standing there staring at me.
“The envelope they gave you has the deed waiting for your signature,” I continue.
He is still staring and not saying anything. I’m worried I broke him.
“I knew how much it meant to you and I wanted you to have it back.”
Still nothing. I’m getting worried.
