“When did you get so smart?” I ask him.

“I’m not smart. I got knocked around too many times.” He chuckles.

“True that.” I sigh.

“You want to know about her past, start with that Ethan guy. He’s the only one that is around. He seems to know her.”

“Okay.”

“Do me a favor, hothead?”

“What’s that?”

“Take someone with you, someone you trust, because you might not like what he has to say.”

I nod, having to agree.

Memphis knocks on my door and then enters. “Breakfast.”

“No privacy around here,” I mumble, taking a quick shower and throwing on some clothes.

“Nope.” He grins.

“What if I walked into your room?”

“I’d fuck you up for that.” He laughs.

“Yeah, I figured,” I grumble. Not that I would do that.

“Come on. Let’s eat.” I follow him out to the house.

“No buffet this morning?”

“It’s going to rain. We took plates to all the cabins and let the guys sleep in,” he informs me.

“But not me?”

“Not you.” He laughs.

“Thanks.”

“Sal is giving you the date today.” He smirks.

“What?”

“You. Date. Timber. Show.”

“Fuck you, asshole. I know all that. But why me?”

“I saw her after the loft and figured you needed to show her your charm.”

“I don’t have a date planned, and it’s raining.”
