We head outside since it’s not raining and the buffet is back up. I start to grab a plate when I see Snow sitting at a table with Dayton.
“She stayed the night?” I whisper.
“Hey, hey! Look at me. You don’t know what happened. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
“I’ll try not to, but it’s just weird.”
“Go sit with Rome and Axel. They’re safe.”
“Okay.”
I slide into a chair with my back to Dayton.
“Hey, hot stuff.” Silas joins us.
“Hi.” I smile. I don’t know how he does it, but he and his brother could make anyone smile.
“Heard we have a task or whatever today.”
“You do?”
“Something that has to do with you.”
“Isn’t the whole show about me?”
All three laugh.
I glance over my shoulder and they all tense.
“She was here waiting when we got back,” I tell them.
“I don’t want to be another person telling you what to do with your life. Heartbreak sucks. And even if you don’t know where you stand with him, you have plenty of eligible bachelors waiting to take you out.” He grins, and I giggle.
“Axel is your date today. Don’t fall for my brother, save your heart for me.” I laugh.
“You’re a dick,” Axel says as he punches his brother.
“At least I know I’ll have a good time.” I chuckle.
“You know it. We’re going for a motorcycle ride.”
“I’ve never been on one.”
“You’ll love it.”
“And that’s it?”
“What’s it?”
“We’re just going for a ride?” I ask Axel.
“Oh no, but I can’t give everything away.” He wiggles his eyebrows, and I laugh. It feels good to laugh.
I watch Rome’s face as it darkens for a minute, and I see he’s staring in Dayton’s direction.
If he wants to go back to Snow, I’ll move on. Silas is right, there are plenty of eligible bachelors right here.
“Fellas, as we all know, Timber is a vet tech studying to be a veterinarian. Some of the things she does are not pleasant. You will be doing some of those things today. Load up.”
