“I am,” I lie.
“We’ll be on set cheering you on and helping you get ready when you need it. Ariel is going to do your hair tomorrow and Natalie is going to do your makeup.” Ever smiles over at me.
“Natalie is coming?”
“Yeah, she’s helping Sal out. She’s going to be his new partner and she’s good,” Ever says.
“That’s cool. I appreciate it,” I reply as Linc hands us each a plate.
“Thanks, babe.” Skye kisses his cheek. Man, they were at odds just a couple months ago and now they are relationship goals.
“I’m not hungry,” I say, getting up. “I’m going to get some sleep. Big day and all.”
“I’ll give you a ride,” Memphis offers.
“It’s alright. It’s nice outside and it’s not too far. I’ll just walk.” I wave at the others and head out. I need a moment to myself before my life is turned upside down.
“Leaving so soon?” Dayton’s voice stops me at the front door.
“Yeah. Don’t want to put a damper on the festivities with my frumpy self,” I say, slamming the door.
He might be sexy to look at it, with abs for miles, no chest hair, bright blue eyes, and blond hair, but fuck, he’s a dickhead. I’m not usually that mean, but whatever he has going on makes him a demon from Hell or something. If he wasn’t so broken, he would be a wonderful guy and would make any girl happy. And he’s my type. But after what I heard, I know I have no chance with him, and right now, I don’t want it.
CHAPTERFOUR
DAYTON
Wow. Didn’t know she had it in her. Everyone says she’s so nice and yet she slammed the door. Granted, it was because of what I said. But it’s true. She doesn’t put any effort into herself.
“She doesn’t because she’s working over fifty hours at the vet and taking classes and helping out the ranchers and farmers with their bigger animals.” I spin around to find Linc standing in the kitchen.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Sorry would be a good start. Stop being such a dick to everyone. You made the mistake, and Snow broke up with you. Sometimes we just have to push forward. But you keep wanting to blame everyone else. I think once you take responsibility, you’ll start living again.”
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” I move forward, but London joins us and steps in between.
“Go sleep it off. I know you’re not drunk, but you’re not in your right mind. Go to bed.”
“You’re not my dad.” I step to my full height, knowing London could take me out in a heartbeat.
“Do not try me, Dayton.” He glares at me. I stare a bit longer until I just do the right thing and walk off. Fuck him, fuck Timber, and fuck Linc.
Wow, I really am an asshole. I know everyone is right and I need to move on, but I just can’t. I don’t know what’s holding me back.
Maybe I’m hoping Snow will come back. But I doubt that’s going to happen.
CHAPTERFIVE
TIMBER
I crawled into bed once I got back to the homestead, ignoring the looks Shane and Ivy gave me when I walked in. I don’t want pity looks. I stared at the ceiling before sleep took over and woke up to the birds chirping. I love mornings. I usually head out to Linc’s ranch and check on his horses or Mr. Turner’s to check on his cows. One is about ready to give birth. Animals aren’t complicated like humans.
Sighing, I throw on some jeans, a T-shirt, and my boots. I can at least check on Shane’s horses since I’m here. I head downstairs, needing coffee first.
“Sammy could use a good run.” I jump when I hear Shane’s voice.
“Sorry, you scared me.” My breathing starts to slow down to normal.
